Be on the record.
Iran has been the verge of a nuclear weapon since 1990, according to Netanyahu. They officially gave up their nuclear weapons program in 2002, and their 'Supreme Leader' has a religious ban on it. In order for this preemptive war to be remotely legitimate, the following things would have to have occurred:
- Credible public intel (US intel says its not happening)
- Foreclosure of all diplomatic means (Trump ripped up the deal, which Iran was abiding by; further, Trump reportedly used diplomacy to facilitate an Israeli suckerpunch)
- Development of the weapon (not just the technology).
- Development of the means to deliver the weapon.
- The imminent use of the weapon.
- Congressional Approval
A war of regional hegemony is not legitimate. It's illegal, it's immoral, and it could end America.
Bonus Question: Has Trump betrayed his anti-war voters?
Isn't it enough W lied us into a war with his weapons of mass destruction lies? Who the hell is America to say what other countries can and can't have? I don't want to see Iran with a nuke but that's really not our decision. Is the United states going to start another war with a middle eastern country, do we never learn? I can tell you who benefits from a war, all the people invested in the military industrial complex and the complex itself, we the people sure as hell don't benefit from the upper class sending you sons and daughters off to a war in a foreign land, again.Be on the record.

America needs to stay focused on the South China Sea and Eastern Europe. That's where the game is played. If Israel wants to deal with Iran, fine, but America shouldn't get roped into a side quest.
I mean, clearly they can lob some missiles at Iran on their own. I doubt they can escalate much beyond that, since the two countries are so far apart. Either way, I don't see anything good of America getting directly involved.Israel can't do shit without America, so a greenlight for Israel is equal to America going to war with Iran.

I'm not sure what it even means for Israel to "lose to Iran." Israel started this by lobbing missiles at Iran, and they can more-or-less stop whenever they want.American missiles.
Is there any scenario where America would let Israel lose to Iran? I mean outside of Democrats becoming a progressive or even center-left party, which they are not.

My read of the situation is that Iran will stop lobbing missiles as soon as Israel does.Losing to Iran would involve Iran continuing to decimate Israel long after Israel had run out of American weaponry.
Trump didn't have any anti-war voters.

Iran has a “dumbbell” population curve by age demographics. There are old people and young people.Huge numbers died in the various wars of a single generation.America needs to stay focused on the South China Sea and Eastern Europe. As for Iran: The only lasting change will come when Iranians decide to stop being a theocracy and join the 21st century. Maybe they'll notice the IRGC is in disarray due to Israel's bombings and rise up against their government, but I don't think that can be assumed. Wars are inherently unpredictable, and regimes are durable until they aren't.
Agreed. I think Iran is one of those countries where the culture could change extremely drastically in the span of a few years once the old theocracy is gone. Very few regimes in the world are more out of step with their population than Iran.Iran has a “dumbbell” population curve by age demographics. The youth of Iran overwhelmingly want to rejoin the rest of the world. Just look at the demonstrations over there.
We don’t need to do anything but wait for the old guard to die off.
Or we could kill a bunch of people and start the whole generational cycle over again.

Sure, but none of his supporters have ever been anti-war. They're a death cult. Things they say about wanting peace are just flat out lies.Trumpism is whimsical.
It lacks lasting principles which might bog it down.
It’s one thing to defend an ally when they are attacked and to stand by a friend and help them defend themselves when attacked - it’s a complete other to stand by when they start a war.
I’m getting really tired of wars in the sand of the Middle East. My entire life…it’s been one war after another there and nothing good ever comes of it.
And frankly, I’m growing tired of Israel.
We are being told we don’t have the money for our own people to have healthcare and food stamps - so perhaps it’s time we stop supporting a country where there people have universal healthcare, etc - and let Bibi fund his
own war machine with their own money instead of banking on us.

Bibi has wanted to drag the US into a war with Iran for decades. I hope we are smart enough to stay out of it under this Administrstion.
We don' need to declare war to use missiles to hit countries threatening us. Most every president has done this in my lifetime more than once. This regime has killed Americans and I have no problem destroying their ability to make nuclear weapons. They have threatened us and our allies over and over again. This is a no brainer.Be on the record.

I don't think so. Russia sees more people buying Russian oil instead of Iranian oil. More money to fund his war in Ukraine. Maybe European countries will also start buying Russian oil again now that Ukraine is no longer in the news. Well on the back page somewhere.Iran is a russian ally.
guess who would be coming to dinner?
