I was reading the following article today:

part of which Tulsi Gabbard said, " When you have people like former CIA Director John Brennan openly talking about how he’s spoken with or heard from appointees and nominees in the Biden administration who are already starting to look across our country for these types of movements similar to the insurgencies they’ve seen overseas, that in his words, he says make up this unholy alliance of religious extremists, racists, bigots, he lists a few others and at the end, even libertarians.”

So, it made me wonder, do People Have The Right To Be Racists And Bigots without being profiled by intelligence? Or, do we indiscriminately profile everyone who we deem to be racists or bigots and have an FBI file on all of them?

The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act of 2021 was introduced in the House earlier this week in the aftermath of rioting at the U.S. Capitol earlier this month that left five dead.

I doubt it will become law.

We profile racists and bigots. As we should

The most grave danger to any nation is when the people think for themselves. No nation can long survive free thought, free speech and free enjoyment of the fruits of one's labor. It is therefore incumbent upon government to stifle all things which are enjoyed by the individual so that the collective can be truly free.

Off hand, I would suggest we investigate groups who are a threat to our safety and security no matter what their specific beliefs are. Unfortunately our history of this shows that the authorities have been overzealous in their surveillance and actions against dissident groups, such as anti-war and civil rights groups and have gone easy on right-wing racist and so-called libertarian groups.

Their is no way to objectify racism and bigotry, so it becomes subjective. Whitesare the least bigoted, least racist of all of the tribes in the USA.

As long as they don’t infringe on the rights of others I don’t care what they think or say.

The real question should be: are individuals be free to hurt others, like not wear masks during a pandemic or treat their fellow citizens like subhuman creatures because they don't like their skin tone?

I have to address the disconnect between the title and content of your poll, and the meaning behind the link in your post.
Creating a Domestic Terrorism Bill to deal with domestic terrorism - a crime - cannot, unto itself, be conflated with whether or not people have a "right to be racist". Those two ideas are totally unrelated.

McCarthyism II surrounds us now by the authoritarian John Brennan types.
For all the left's chatter that Trump was an authoritarian when it comes to the preservation of civil liberties, Brennan makes Trump look like a choir boy.

If you are acting in a way that DIRECTLY or RECKLESSLY endangers others then you should be subject to consequences for that action. If someone merely feels threatened then it would be incumbent upon them to show, REASONABLY, that their concern is due to direct or reckless actions of another. Failing to wear a mask in public is neither reckless nor directly dangerous to anyone else UNLESS that person has reason to believe that they are a carrier of some dangerous communicable disease. For example, if neither you nor I have COVID then we are not a danger to one another even if we are in close proximity and not wearing masks.

That’s a good question but I fail to see how it’s connected to the subject of the thread.

So why do Trump's own top intelligence chiefs consider white supremacists to be the biggest domestic terror threat in the country?

In the U.S. people have the right to be these things but we shouldn't be. This authoritarian power grab by the left is some scary shit.

Because being a racist and bigot hurts others. So the question of the thread really becomes: should people be free to hurt others?

How is it a power grab?

You, the collective you, better hope it doesn't.

Being a bigot or racist is ideology. Acting on that ideology is where the line should be drawn. What you think or say about someone can cause emotional harm but is the solution for that is to make it a crime to express your thoughts via words in order not to hurt someone’s feelings?

I'm not sure telling people you hate them and think they are subhuman scum and deserve to exterminated, just because you don't like their skin tone or the religion they happened to be born into, can be considered an ideology.

You don't think the government monitoring larges swaths of people and putting them on lists isn't part of a power grab? Not a student of history, I take it.

We do that with potentially dangerous people or groups who threaten others all the time. Don't you watch Law & Order?

That he was unsuccessful in his effort to overturn an election and seize at least four more years of power makes the effort no less horrifying. We are fortunate that he is lazy and incompetent.
