Legislation that would require all schools that receive state money to display the Ten Commandments in each classroom gained approval Thursday from the Louisiana Senate and is on its way to the House for apparent final approval.
The bill’s proponents believe a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that reinstated a coach who had been fired for leading prayer after high school football games would apply to House Bill 71 if it becomes law. But the American Civil Liberties Union is still expected to challenge the measure if Republican Gov. Jeff Landry approves it.
The First Amendment protects us from having someone else's religion imposed on us.

Oh Lord, save us from your misguided zealots.

"Sen. Adam Bass, R-Bossier City, carried the bill for its author, Rep. Dodie Horton, R-Haughton, and presented the Ten Commandments as a historical document that merited a place of prominence in classrooms."

But teaching an honest portrayal of slavery is prohibited.

Got it.

Time once again to send a donation to the ACLU.

Thanks for this information.

Perhaps they could post an edited version?

Which would you keep or edit? (See below)

1. You shall have no other gods before Me.
2. You shall make no idols.
3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
4. Keep the Sabbath day holy.
5. Honor your father and your mother.
6. You shall not murder.
7. You shall not commit adultery.
8. You shall not steal.
9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. You shall not covet.

I think this is a good thing, even if you don't believe in God. The ten commandments and the golden rule are good things to teach children. I'm willing to bet progressives have no issue with the 10 pillars of Islam being displayed, but if Christians do it, they are zealots. Also, it's only a public school; if you want your Reddit classroom, you are always free to home school. Also, transgender people are just as big of zealots as we are accused of being and force Christians to support homos, so this is only an issue when it's us but not them.

Religion, any religion, has no place in secular public schools, period, and it isn’t public school employees place to teach morals/values.

Our Constitution doesn’t contain the establishment clause for no reason.

^ Pretty clear evidence that you’re no Christian.

I’m willing to bet people supporting this would lose their shit if said Pillars were posted next to the Commandments. Or the tenets of the Satanic Temple…
Except that’s exactly what freedom of religion requires.

Number 11. Praise to the Orange Jesus is mandatory.

thats not state endorsed religion,,

you are free to read it or not,,

easier to walk on by,,
In a public school, it is.

But I understand many people are not very interested in the necessity of maintaining strict separation of Church and State.

I've been dealing with anti-Palestinian alternate reality for several hours now, so I'm loath to take on yet another I-don't-live-in-the-really-real-world poster.

Believe whatever you want.

But, in your reality, best make sure that that those who insert religion into government come from your version of god....

If the Christian 10 commandments can be posted in public secular schools, so can Atheists 10 commandments;

  1. “Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.
  2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.
  3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.
  4. Every person has the right to control their body.
  5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.
  6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.
  7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.
  8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.
  9. There is no one right way to live.
  10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.”

do you want to repeal those??

of course you can always show me where separation of church and state is in the constitution??

Haven't said a thing about repealing laws.

You really do go off on tangents.

Don't they know that is unconstitutional?
