The 2020 presidential election saw the most votes in U.S. history at 156 million and counting, and the highest participation rate since 1900.

More votes were cast in the 2020 presidential election than in any other U.S. election in history, and the turnout rate was the highest in more than a century. President-elect Joe Biden has now earned 80 million votes, and ballots are still being counted. That is by far the most votes cast for any presidential candidate in U.S. history. Biden's total shatters the 2008 record of 69.5 million votes cast for Barack Obama. The former vice president was also on that ticket as Obama's running mate. Overall, more than 156 million Americans cast ballots in 2020, a number that will continue to climb in coming days as more results are reported. The final vote total is likely to get to about 158 million. That is more than 20 million higher than the 2016 record of 137 million votes cast. The turnout rate is estimated to be 66.5% of eligible voters, the highest since 1900, according to the United States Elections Project.

These are remarkable figures with voting taking place in the midst of a worldwide pandemic that has led to statewide lockdowns and more than 250,000 Americans dead in less than nine months. Democrats have now won the popular vote in seven of the last eight presidential elections. A Republican hasn't won it since George W. Bush's reelection in 2004. Trump has yet to concede and until this week delayed the transfer of power. All of it will make for a challenge for Biden to govern, while needing to hit the ground running to address COVID-19 and the economy, as well as racial inequality.

So you are telling us that Biden who couldn't draw a crowd for a political rally is more popular than Obama and actually received 80 million legal votes? As for the popular vote one more time Biden is President of California, 5.1 million votes and NY 1.2 million vote wins for Biden, two screwed up states that are fiscal and social disasters!! California and NY has never been silent nor has the radical leftwing party spreading their liberal BS and promoting illegal ballots. The silent majority to the left are those in the shadows who never have registered to vote but voted illegally for Biden as did most in Cemeteries across the country

Keep campaigning but never telling us why anyone would vote FOR Biden as results don't matter to people like you whose agenda is Medicare for All, not going to happen. GOP gains seats in the House and will retain control of the Senate, amazing with that so called Biden Landslide

Is this the part where you make the logical leap that without state X and state Y, your candidate would have won? From a political strategy perspective, the question for the GOP is how to make inroads in states where they perform poorly. Simply complaining about them isn't going to change anything.
 
80 million is a quite impressive number by recent standards. Hopefully all of those people stay engaged so that Trumpism doesn't creep back in through the side door.

This made me chuckle. Biden supporters, being generally more educated than the average Trumper had no interest in attending super spreader events. And Biden was well aware of that.
Moreover, I don't know anyone who claims Biden is more popular than Obama given the record turnout. What it really shows is how loathed Trump is by a majority of americans and why we/they knew we simply could not permit Trump to have 4 more years to decimate our nation.,

No what should happen is that all official ballots mailed to all registered voters in the state in violation of even state law should be tossed. The Governor doesn't have that authority, only the state legislature. You people are civics challenged.

In the final tally they don't matter much, but from a broader political view, they do show that a very large segment of the population did support Trump. I don't think that's something that can be ignored going forward; depending on whether Trump continues to remain in the political spotlight.
