Two Republican candidates for state office in Minnesota have been physically assaulted in recent days...
Republican state representative Sarah Anderson was punched in the arm last week after confronting a man who was destroying yard signs promoting Republican candidates.
“It was just insane. He was charging at me, saying, ‘Why don’t you go kill yourself?'” Anderson told the Washington Free Beacon. “To have someone physically coming after you and attacking you is just disheartening.”
Shane Mekeland, a first-time Republican candidate for the state legislature, suffered a concussion over the weekend after he was sucker punched while meeting with constituents at a local restaurant....
Maybe it's a reaction to those fine tiki torch carrier people with the iron bars, so beloved of the sainted Trump.
'Member way back when, when some folks said that giving people permission to become increasingly aggressive with politicians they disagree with was going to lead to violence?
I 'Member.
The society is so hyper partisan, I am expecting more violence in the future. There are people on both sides are already engaging in violence as is, and accusing the other side of acting like Nazis. However, hyper partisanship is preventing most people from recognizing or admitting the facts, or realizing that they are not simply defending the real victims. Things are not looking good for America.

Yup. Tribal Politics is now our identity, our religious community, our source of meaning and hatred. And the incentive structure for politicians is to feed that for short term gain (Angry People Vote), despite the long-term damage to our body politic.

Hmm, I seem to remember a Republican politician punching a reporter.
To claim the Left is violent without acknowledging Right wing violence is laughable.
That whole angry mob narrative is a pathetic attempt at fear mongering.

I'll take that one-dumb-politician-punching-a-reporter, and raise you a gun man trying to mow down a good chunk of the GOP caucus on a softball field.
Violence exists on both sides (certainly I spent much of 2015 and 2016 pointing it out on the Right), but they are not equivalent.
Good to hear they have a suspect. Violence that is used to chill political speech needs to be punished harshly.
And I will raise you one Nazi running over an innocent civilian.
Hmmm...
Maybe its just pure Liberal hatred.
I feel bad for Liberals. They've completely lost touch with anything that even remotely resembles reality.
Liberals used to believe in something. Now all they believe in is destroying nations and creating civil unrest.
"NAZIS!" they scream. Then...they run out and cold-**** a couple of those evil Conservatives, or piss in condoms and toss them at the police, or impose a speech ban on anyone who just might say something they...the great Liberal army...might take offense at. And this...this active destruction of free speech has even eaten its own by banning Bill friggin' Maher from appearing at a university.
Yes Liberalism is gone. Its been replaced by bald-faced hatred of anyone who dare to not openly and loudly proclaim their fealty to the utter destruction of the state, law and order, freedom. They are a radical gestapo of the very thing they claim to vehemently oppose...
FACSISM.
Americans...make sure you go vote in 3 weeks...and think before you make your mark. This time...its rather important.
I'll admit, I'm super suspicious of handing government more power, especially over things that flow from expression... but I'm increasingly in favor of heavy-handed responses to those who violate norms of basic non-aggression and civility.

Violence against politicians is unacceptable no matter what the political affiliations involved are.
But the "caution against inflammatory rhetoric" is silly. Especially when we've got a president who uses such rhetoric constantly.
