Take part in January 6th attack, confronting law enforcement officers, encouraging others to kill police and be hired as a senior adviser for the Department of Justice.

This is what has become of America.

“Less than five years after urging rioters to "kill" police at the Capitol, a former Jan. 6 defendant is working as a senior adviser for the Department of Justice, which has been dramatically remade under the second Trump administration.

NPR has obtained police bodycam footage from multiple angles of the former defendant and current administration official, Jared Wise, berating officers and calling them "Nazi" and "Gestapo." NPR located the footage, which has not previously been published, in a review of thousands of court exhibits from Jan. 6 criminal cases, obtained through legal action by a coalition of media organizations. The Department of Justice had introduced the footage as an exhibit in Wise's trial. NPR also obtained the transcript of Wise's testimony, in which he acknowledged that he repeatedly yelled "kill 'em" as officers were being attacked and tried to explain his actions. Wise was not convicted of any crimes related to Jan. 6, due to President Trump's order to end all Capitol riot prosecutions.

A Department of Justice spokesperson said in a statement, "Jared Wise is a valued member of the Justice Department and we appreciate his contributions to our team."

Wise had already entered the Capitol building through a door that was forced open, exiting about ten minutes later through a broken window, according to charging documents. He remained on Capitol grounds for hours during the ongoing chaos.

"You guys are disgusting," Wise told the officers, as captured in the bodycam footage. "I'm former law enforcement. You're disgusting. You are the Nazi. You are the Gestapo.”

We currently have elected officials and people holding positions of power in this country that they should not be holding.
It’s a sad situation and the history books are not going to look at this period of American history well.

The next responsible government, whether Democrat or Republican, is going to have to do some major housecleaning.

There are a lot of unethical and even dangerous people in positions that should be apolitical.

The right keeps guffawing about Dem polling. The laughter would stop if they understood the polling is because people are *pissed* the Dems aren't fighting back savagely. If the Dems run on righting the ship and prosecuting to the fullest extent of the law *every* last criminal in the Trump regime, we sweep. No doubt.

Indeed. It is beyond dismaying, how far America has fallen over the last decade.

Disagree. Retribution is not a campaign position that will rally people.

Democrats need to differentiate themselves from MAGA, not emulate them.

Being gay or whatever sexually only matters to the right. Our best bet in my mind is Pete B. He explains things in a way all Americans can understand, he's a great communicator and everything trump isn't.

And this is the problem. I didn't suggest revenge. These are criminals doing criminal things. One of the reasons we are in this mess is because the last admin was too timid in going after all the folks who participated in Jan 6. All of them. We keep not doing these things *due* to politics and not wanting to be seen as seeking revenge. It's why as we've found out this country's process for pushing any potus' wrong doing was nothing more than a gentleman's agreement if there's no teeth.

These folks attacked our country and are acting in unconstitutional manner. Kidnapping folks off the streets, sending them to 3rd world gulags. If that's not the stuff you prosecute to both punish those that took part and a warning against doing it in the future, then we'll just be in another fascist holding pattern like we were 2021-2024

Maybe all future presidential candidates should offer pardons and paychecks to insurrectionists, promise to prosecute anyone who tries to stop it.
