With Trump, it goes without saying. But Vance is new enough to the scene that, even with his dismal favorability ratings, we still ought to occasionally pause and reflect on just how much he sucks.

On Sunday he accidentally admitted to creating the fake dog-eating story that’s now tearing apart Springfield, Ohio (his own constituents). And today the WSJ confirms that he knew all along it was BS. Abhorrent behavior from a public official—and mind boggling for it to be from the guy representing this community.

How the Trump Campaign Ran With Rumors About Pet-Eating Migrants—After Being Told They Weren’t True
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio—City Manager Bryan Heck fielded an unusual question at City Hall on the morning of Sept. 9, from a staff member of Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance. The staffer called to ask if there was any truth to bizarre rumors about Haitian immigrants and pets in Springfield.

“He asked point-blank, ‘Are the rumors true of pets being taken and eaten?’” recalled Heck. “I told him no. There was no verifiable evidence or reports to show this was true. I told them these claims were baseless.”

By then, Vance had already posted about the rumors to his 1.9 million followers on X. Yet he kept the post up, and repeated an even more insistent version of the claim the next morning.

That night, former President Donald Trump stood on a Philadelphia debate stage and shot the rumor into the stratosphere. “In Springfield, they’re eating the dogs,” he said to 67 million viewers. “The people that came in, they’re eating the cats. They’re eating, they’re eating, the pets of the people that live there. And this is what’s happening in this country.”

Looking forward to Walz shredding him.

Vance has a lot of stupidity to answer to. He has a history of criticizing Trump, the GOP and women.

His recent statements also lend themselves to challenge and mocking.

It will be fun 😁

Vance has admitted the "Haitians eating people's pets" is a lie, and he says that lie is justified because it makes the media talk about immigration.

Never mind the bomb threats and violence against law abiding citizens of Springfield. We all have to pay a price for victory.

"story that’s now tearing apart Springfield, Ohio"
The attribution of this story to that effect has not been demonstrated, and is mere wishful thinking so as to be able to blame a Republican in a partisan manner.

From a more in-depth perspective, importing some 20,000 Haitian migrants into a small city of 60,000 is going to have problems, economically, culturally, etc. etc.

What is the effect of Vance deliberately spreading these lies about Haitians, in your view?

The city does have problems absorbing them and civil services are strained. But by all accounts the Haitians are a hardworking, taxpaying lot and the city will adjust and be the better for it.

If you want to just vacuous rhetoric claim it, fine. This is recognized as a baseless propaganda smear.
A stronger position would be to demonstrate a direct cause-effect.

I leave it up to you.

You seem more upset about the characterization of Vance’s made-up pet-eating slurs than you are about Vance spreading these lies in the first place.

Seems like a stand-up guy, doesn’t he?

I'm getting really tied of the constant propaganda smearing based on 1/2 truths which the let leaning members of this forums are engaged in.

Some here on the forums posted a video of residents having witnessed something which had the appearances along those lines, specifically I think it had something to do with water fowl, so there appears to be something weird going on there having to do with animals.

Meh. Hyper-partisan biased subjective assessment.

😆 😆 😆

Just stop. The genesis of the "They're Eating The Dogs" story was a fabricated BS story posted on Facebook. The Chronically Online right-wing fascists ran with it. Vance promulgated it, fully knowing it was false. Trump blurted it out, to his and the nation's embarrassment, during a nationally televised debate -- and refused to back down when told it was false.

The mere attempts to excuse it only show how low you're willing to go, to defend a morally compromised political party.

Y'know, once upon a time, the right wing actually believed that the ends do not justify the means. Good to see yet another conservative principle shredded in the name of a naked attempt to seize power via racism.

The man was carrying some geese that had been injured/killed in an auto accident. That picture was in no way related to Springfield and was taken 40 miles away from Springfield.

The bottom line here is Vance admitted he made up a story (LIED) to control the media's narrative. That's despicable. In before all the suffering it's causing to the Haitian community there.

The governor, mayors, police departments and everyone else interviewed said that the Haitians are a decent people who work hard, pay taxes and don't bother anyone. They are not eating the pets.

Wall Street Journal...that liberal rag! 🤣

See what happens when you pander your message to racists, xenophobes, and uneducated folk?

What a dick.

Haven’t seen any “left leaning members” ludicrously asserting that THEY’RE EATING THE DOGS.

Trump is senile, to the extent that’s an excuse, but Vance at least knows better and still has his mental faculties. Just awful to try and destroy a community—that he represents!—in a lame attempt at electoral gain.

There's more to that story, apparently.

New Police Call Audio from Springfield, Ohio, Appears to Confirm Haitian Goose Story

Amid accusations from The New York Times and CNN that claims from Republican Sen. J.D, Vance of Ohio about Haitian immigrants eating pets in Springfield, Ohio, are “false,” a phone call to an emergency dispatcher has emerged indicating that at least one report of such behavior was filed with police.
. . .
But since then, a call from Aug. 26 has emerged to indicate the liberal media may be disconnected from the truth.
“I’m sitting here, I’m riding on the trails, going to my orientation for my job today, and I see a group of Haitian people, there was about four of ’em, they all had geese in their hands,” the caller said in an audio recording posted to X by the Federalist.
“They got away,” the caller can be heard to say, as he shares what he said was part of the license plate of a vehicle connected to the incident.
“There was two men, two women,” he said. “I couldn’t tell their age because I’m in a hurry going to this orientation.”

After telling the Clark County dispatcher that the group was heading for downtown, he gave a location that does not exist, the Federalist reported.
He said he saw the group about two minutes before calling police.
“I was trying to get my phone out and I was trying to make it to this orientation on time. I’m time crunching here, and I saw that, I’m like, ‘Yeah this has got to be reported,” he said.
“How many geese did they have?” the dispatcher asked.
“They each had one,” the caller said. The dispatcher the asked for the man’s name and phone number, which he gave.
A police report further verified the report of the incident.

Trump is senile, to the extent that’s an excuse, but Vance at least knows better and still has his mental faculties. Just awful to try and destroy a community—that he represents!—in a lame attempt at electoral gain.
Showing your deranged TDS again, I see. Oh well.

1. They are there legally, and they came there for work with companies in that area.

2. They have been an economic positive for the area.

3. Sure, anytime a place grows really fast, it will probably drive up the cost of housing, increase the number of kids in classrooms, increase traffic and so on. For example, look Western North Dakota during the Shale Oil boom. However, none of those involve Haitian immigrants eating people's pet cats and dogs.

You know all this, yet here you are arguing this as though you have some actual point to make. Why engage in intellectual dishonesty like that? Just because Vance does it, doesn't mean that you have to do it.
