Far more Americans are sick of the same oligarchic drivel and Democratic spinelessness than worried about the usual McCarthyist nonsense.Because some Democrats realize that endorsing Mamdani implicates a national standard for his ideology, and odds are a losing platform when facing how many disagree.
Mamdani is the best thing that has happened to the GOP."Senator Chris Van Hollen, Democrat of Maryland, endorsed Zohran Mamdani for mayor of New York City on Saturday and called on his party’s leadership to do the same, criticizing them for a delay that he said had allowed President Trump to exploit Democratic divisions. Mr. Van Hollen said Mr. Mamdani, the party’s nominee, was focused on “ensuring that people can afford to live in the place where they work,” a goal that “Donald Trump and New York’s financial elites see that as a threat.” “Yet, many Democratic members of the Senate and the House representing New York have stayed on the sidelines,” Mr. Van Hollen told a cheering group of Democratic activists and officials gathered on Saturday afternoon in Des Moines. “That kind of spineless politics is what people are sick of. They need to get behind him and get behind him now.”
In his remarks, Mr. Van Hollen cast the hesitancy of Democratic officials and strategists as a political mistake, particularly at a time when surveys show voters hold very unfavorable perceptions of the Democratic brand. “We’ve become a party that too often trims its sails. Too cautious, too rudderless. Too attached to poll-washed, pundit-rinsed, and donor-dried messages,” he said. “What comes out of the wash is all bleached and blow-dried.”
In his remarks, Mr. Van Hollen cited his involvement in fighting for the return of Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland man who was wrongfully deported by the Trump administration to El Salvador in the spring. Some in his party, he said, argued that getting embroiled in a fight over a deportation was a “distraction” and potentially politically unpopular, because Mr. Trump’s hard line on immigration had resonated with voters. Mr. Van Hollen saw a different lesson. “This finger in the wind stuff has got to end. We also need to stop deluding ourselves that the problem is all about messaging, or about volume, or style,” he said. “We don’t just need to fight. We need to fight for something.”"

Hollen is obviously a great messenger. As the article points out, contrary to the advice of party experts, he stuck his neck out to help a constituent and do the right thing and bring her husband back from an unjust purgatory. And his reputation has just grown.
People opposing him complain about what Mamdani will do if elected, but since we thought electing to the presidency a man who tries to steal free and fair elections could result in good things happening, I suggest its a poor political strategy.
Agreed, but I don't think all of Mamdani's proposals will see light of day. I don't know what's involved with NYC government, but the mayor is one vote on the city council. I see Mamdani as a charismatic figure with big promises without detailed plans. Kinda like Trump.Because some Democrats realize that endorsing Mamdani implicates a national standard for his ideology, and odds are a losing platform when facing how many disagree.
How so?Mamdani is the best thing that has happened to the GOP.
His words are not where America is or wants to be.
His actions will likely cripple the greatest city in the country.
How so?
Really. What of his proposed policies are going to cripple NYC?
Most all of them.
Affordability and social services
Housing: A signature proposal is to freeze rent increases on the city's nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments. Mamdani also plans to build 200,000 units of affordable housing over ten years and double the city's spending on public housing improvements.
Child care: Mamdani supports universal, no-cost child care for children ages six weeks to five years, along with a "baby basket" program for new parents.
Transportation: He has advocated for making city buses permanently free and supports congestion pricing. A pilot program that made five bus lines free for a year, which Mamdani helped push for in the state assembly, was successful but not renewed.
Grocery stores: He proposes that the city pilot five city-owned grocery stores—one in each borough—to reduce food costs, a plan that has precedent in other U.S. cities.
Minimum wage: Mamdani intends to raise the city's minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030.
Taxation and economy
Increased taxes: To fund his proposals, Mamdani plans to raise taxes on the city's wealthiest residents and corporations. This includes a new 2% income tax on residents earning over $1 million annually and an increase in the corporate tax rate to 11.5%.
Property tax reform: He seeks to shift the property tax burden away from homeowners in the outer boroughs and onto more expensive properties, primarily in Manhattan.
Small business relief: He also proposes cutting fines and fees for small businesses and speeding up permitting.
Public safety and justice
Policing reform: After having called to defund the NYPD in 2020, Mamdani's stance has evolved. As of 2025, he no longer supports defunding and says he would work with police to address violent crime.
Community safety: He proposes creating a Department of Community Safety, separate from the NYPD, to expand mental health outreach and respond to non-violent crises.
Protest policing: Mamdani has also committed to eliminating the NYPD's controversial Strategic Response Group (SRG) for protest management.
Rent freezes have happened before. It didn't cripple the city. And while I do believe that the goal of building that much housing is pie in the sky it is a worthy goal. Before he does any new construction, he will have to get NYCHA under control and I have my doubts that anyone will be able to do that without a complete overhaul of the system.Housing: A signature proposal is to freeze rent increases on the city's nearly one million rent-stabilized apartments. Mamdani also plans to build 200,000 units of affordable housing over ten years and double the city's spending on public housing improvements.
I don't see how that cripples the city. It looks like it helps people more than anything.Child care: Mamdani supports universal, no-cost child care for children ages six weeks to five years, along with a "baby basket" program for new parents.
You see that part where it was successful? Yeah... that should be renewed. And Congestion pricing isn't going anywhere. Also... not city crippling.Transportation: He has advocated for making city buses permanently free and supports congestion pricing. A pilot program that made five bus lines free for a year, which Mamdani helped push for in the state assembly, was successful but not renewed.
I also don't see why this is a bad thing. He is proposing something to see if it works. If it does... great.Grocery stores: He proposes that the city pilot five city-owned grocery stores—one in each borough—to reduce food costs, a plan that has precedent in other U.S. cities.
Once again,... how does this cripple the city?Minimum wage: Mamdani intends to raise the city's minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030.
I fail to see how this cripples the city.Increased taxes: To fund his proposals, Mamdani plans to raise taxes on the city's wealthiest residents and corporations. This includes a new 2% income tax on residents earning over $1 million annually and an increase in the corporate tax rate to 11.5%.
Please explain to me how this cripples the city.Property tax reform: He seeks to shift the property tax burden away from homeowners in the outer boroughs and onto more expensive properties, primarily in Manhattan.
What is wrong with this proposal? Did you simply copy and paste something without reading it?Small business relief: He also proposes cutting fines and fees for small businesses and speeding up permitting.

The SRG has cost the taxpayers of NYC millions in payouts because they can't seem to keep order without beating up people who are being peaceful.Protest policing: Mamdani has also committed to eliminating the NYPD's controversial Strategic Response Group (SRG) for protest management.

Van Hollen is a shitbag who prefers MS-13 gangbangers over US citizens murdered by illegals.
Exclusive: Van Hollen never reached out about daughter's ...
The mother of Rachel Morin, who was killed by an undocumented migrant, rebuked her senator in comments to Newsweek on Sunday.www.newsweek.com
I lived in MD. Van Hollen is a shitbag. Always has been.Probably not mourning Kirk's murder appropriately either.

I suspect as he gets closer to winning, they will jump on board.
“Moderates” who gleefully cheer on the US backed genocide in Gaza are precisely what the Democrats don’t need, actually. Most Democrats don't want anything to do with him.
He's everything the Dems don't need right now. They don't need to be embracing Socialists, AOC-type Progs & Anti-Israel chumps. They need to embrace Moderates.
Pathetic. People with your views are the best thing that has happened to the GOP.Mamdani is the best thing that has happened to the GOP.

Why is it not a good idea? Can your articulate why?Coming from the guy who thinks annexing Greenland is a great idea, that’s throughly comical.

Good riddance to them.
Because the people there pretty much universally oppose the idea of being a part of the United States, for starters. Why is it not a good idea? Can your articulate why?
Is it just the prospect of change that upsets you? Yes it is. It is that simple.
