You're not gonna have a leg to stand on if it turns out the video was unfairly cut Grim.

This is just another racist BS story from the Right Wing. Sad.
Breitbart's Sherrod/NAACP story disintegrates
And yet she resigned and the NAACP issued a statement condemning her remarks immediately after the video was released. If it really was "just another racist BS story from the Right Wing", I don't think either of those actions would have taken place.
She said she discriminated against a farmer based on his race.... End of discussion.
Once something like that comes out it's very hard to come back, and in this case if she's been misrepresented you've already proven you have no interest in the truth, you've made up your mind and no evidence to the contrary is gonna change that.
She admits she discriminated yes, but the farm was saved might I remind you. And if it made her realize that after that race shouldn't be an issue. Then no harm no foul.
I often wonder why some white folk are obsessed with trying to find black racists, as if it's like, hey look there's a black racist.... can I be racist again?
There is no excuse for any government official to discriminate against a person based on their race...
Like I said, this discussion is over!

And NO I don't mean you two.
"
This is all we have - the last 1/2 of the released video.
She states that "it is about black and white . . . but it's not" and then states "it opened my eyes" . . . and obviously continues beyond the video itself but continues onto what?
Does she really continue on to reprieve herself?
I don't know.
We don't know.
Does that mean she feels *racist* now - maybe - we don't know.
And Byrd only inducted new people into the KKK. . . but because he became an elected official and claimed to let all that go - it's ok!
 I don't tolerate racism at all - I wasn't born into a world where that was tolerable or acceptable - ever.
She wasn't a government official. This happened 24 years ago.
Shirley Sherrod, the department's Georgia director of Rural Development,
Let me help you recognize the point where the discussion ends for those of us who put honesty above politics.

From the story:
So, that's a private sector job? That's news to me.

The truth, as you stated, is that she discriminated. Why are you defending that, and why would we want someone like that working in our government?
If something came out that could possibly explain away her remarks, I'd certainly take a look at it, but as it stand now, she sure sounds like a racist to me.
Not that Caz needs me to argue her arguemnt...but are YOU willing to even consider the possibility that MAYBE you jumped the gun on this? What if unequivocable proof were given to show her periods of employment with the government?
The example of racism in this clip is not in her comments...it is in the actions of the audience. Something that Ben jealous also pointed out.
Grim...she wasnt a government official when it occured. She agrees with you...even as an employee at a non-profit group she shouldnt have discriminated. She was trying to make that point. I think in peoples zeal and rush to one up the NAACPs condemnation of the Tea Party, the truth is being lost in a 1.5 minute snippet of a video on utube.
She engaged in racial discrimination, therefore, she should not be allowed to hold a jod as a director of any government agency..
C'mon, racist Andrew Breibart edited the video. Did the HAACP see the entire Video, have you seen it?And yet she resigned and the NAACP issued a statement condemning her remarks immediately after the video was released. If it really was "just another racist BS story from the Right Wing", I don't think either of those actions would have taken place.
i don't believe the press is "aligned" with the NAACP. and in case you didn't realize it, this has been brought to the public. i think the entire video should be viewed, btw.
we have msnbc and we have fox. i hope you believe that both are biased and culpable.
I'm not defending discrimination. I'm defending her because she's been misrepresented. As it turns out she wasn't a public official. And yes, what she may have done initially was wrong, but in the spirit of reconcilliation and understanding, if this helped her to change her mind, and his farm was saved ANYWAY then there's a saying in my country which I think rings true here now. What is Verby is Verby - Whats past is past.

As for your comment that this was to "one up" the NAACP, may I remind you that the NAACP's charges were a steaming pile of manure that have absolutely no foundation in truth, while the NAACP is riddled with racism within it's ranks.
I thought the whole transcript was just as damning. Her view of white people and black people made me cringe. We are all Americans! We are all equal. I am so sick of the division. Everyone should be treated as human beings. This woman treated this farmer differently based only on the color of his skin. That is wrong and should not be tolerated or excused in this day and age.

I wonder if you'd be so generous if this was a conservative we were discussing.
"I bet that even as I write, some adolescent boys, in the stairwell of some high school somewhere in America, are accusing each other of being niggardly, and sniggering at their own outrageous wit. I bet ... Wait a minute. 'Sniggering'? Oh, my God...."--John Derbyshire
