Republican Senator Mike Lee has introduced a bill to withdraw the U.S. from NATO, which comes after a two-day alliance summit in The Hague. In reference to the alliance's acronym, the Utah lawmaker introduced the Not A Trusted Organization (NATO) Act to take the U.S. out from the bloc, which he said had "run its course" as he accused its European members of "making American taxpayers pick up the check for decades." The act would direct President Donald Trump to provide notice of denunciation of U.S. membership in NATO, consistent with Article 13 of the alliance treaty, Lee said. Congress has previously taken steps to shield NATO membership from unilateral presidential action. In December 2023, lawmakers approved a bipartisan measure as part of the annual National Defense Authorization Act, requiring a president to obtain Senate approval or an act of Congress before withdrawing the U.S. from NATO. President Donald Trump at the Hague on Wednesday said of NATO's Article 5 clause: "If I didn't stand with it, I wouldn't be here." Trump has pledged his backing for the alliance at its summit on Wednesday signaling a shift away from his previous skepticism.
I still can't fathom why the good people of Utah keep electing this cretin to the US Senate.
Liberals just make stuff up free of rational thought. Some even call themselves "Independent".Meh. Didn't the NATO countries just agree to spending 5% of their GDP on defense?
Yeah, this isn't going to go anywhere.

You'll recall the Sen.Mike Lee (R/UT) posted twice to his X account about the assassination of a married couple from Minnesota: "This is what happens When Marxists don't get their way" and the second says "Nightmare on Waltz street," seemingly blaming Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz for the shootings -- which the governor called an "act of targeted political violence." The posts were eventually deleted from Lee's X account. Lee is also busy amending the Senate version of the Big Beautiiful Bill (BBB) tax act to enable the sale of public lands. Now Lee wants the US to abandon NATO and Europe. Does Senator Lee desire a formal allience with Putin's Russia?
I still can't fathom why the good people of Utah keep electing this cretin to the US Senate. Are you all filled with such hate, greed, and slavishness?

To leave NATO, he'll need 2/3s of the Senate. That's 67 votes.
The GOP doesn't have that.
Fail less, Senator Lee.
And yet you still find yourself unable to criticize it.Meh. Didn't the NATO countries just agree to spending 5% of their GDP on defense?
Yeah, this isn't going to go anywhere.
Awww.And yet you still find yourself unable to criticize it.
I've come to realize that there's reams of legislation introduced that go exactly nowhere, and just refuse to get all worked up about it, or any one of them. You're incapable of criticizing a conservative.
Mike Lee is…
Just the worst.
Hopefully we’ll get some “but liberals!” posts.Righties will be here soon to defend this. Count on it.
