US shoots down ‘high-altitude object’ over Alaska, White House says

"The object was flying at an altitude of 40,000 feet and posed a reasonable threat to the safety of civilian flight. Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of the Pentagon, President Biden ordered the military to down the object and they did and it came inside our territorial waters and those waters right now are frozen," Kirby told reporters at the White House briefing."
 
“Mr Kirby said there was little information available about the object at the time it was shot down, but clarified that it was “much smaller than the spy balloon we took down last Saturday” and had “no significant payload.”

“We’re calling this an object because that’s the best description we have right now,” he said. “We do not know who owns it, whether it’s state-owned or corporate-owned or privately-owned. ”

I'm confused. Should these things be stopped "as soon as they get to Alaska" or after they've been observed, identified and tracked across the country? Should they be shot down over Montana where there's "nothing but cows and telegraph poles" apparently, or over the sea where their parts might get wet? Or now, should they be left alone altogether and not shot down at all?

The tiny right-wing portion of my brain is wracked with dissonance. Things were so much simpler when Trump was president and suddenly everything the government did was right.

My sources tell me that the "object" was actually Superman and that Biden ordered the shoot down to prevent misinformation regarding truth, justice and the American way from being spread.

Violate US Airspace without identification/ communication and win stupid prizes...

Were you alive during 9/11??? We learned a lesson, waiting to be absolutely sure about an uninvited object into US airspace sends the wrong message. Gets a very bad result...

Biden gets attacked for waiting so long with one balloon now attacked for taking quick action with this one....

Some whiners just can't wait to whine...

I'm saying I'm not buying into the act that your arguments are predicated on any sort of principle. Whether the object is identified or not won't have any impact on your position.
