US Gives Foreign Aid to OVER 150 Countries - Our Tax Dollars at Worik

Representative Ted Poe - Texas explains Congressional Foreign Aid Policy. And asks "Why we pay them to hate us?"

US Gives Foreign Aid to OVER 150 Countries

The US is in red, so according to him it recieves American Foreign Aid. He needs better congressional aids.

Doesn't he realise that the money is what gives America influence in Egypt and Pakistan - little as it seems?

And why couldn't he learn to pronounce Venezuela not "Venzuela" when he knew he will be talking about Venezuela?

Time to cut the aid.

The fact that you don't like his map, nor the way he pronounces Venezuela (vɛnɨˈzweɪlə ; Spanish: [beneˈswela), doesn't change the message. Are there any other important "nits" you'd like to discuss? Maybe his neck-tie doesn't please you, or the fact he's a republican!

Now I all hope you're not thinkng that cutting US Aid is gonna balance the budget or anything :coffeepap

You wanna cut it, go for it, but I warn you, it'll come back and bite you.

Personally I don't think we can cut ALL foreign Aid. However, it's fairly obvious that this is an area that Congress is wasting money, simply because they're to lazy to look at each country individually. Heck, our tax dollars built a golf course in Ireland...is financing an automibile manufacturing plant in Finland....every budget item needs to be looked at....AND CUT...H

I think my point is that would waste too much time...

The real problems are SS, Medicaid, medicare and defence spending.

Tackle those problems and you might fix your budget problems.

But if we're gonna spend all this time worrying about 37 billion dollars of an almost 4 trillion dollar budget, well god ****ing help me.

I didn't know if he was a republican or not. I didn't care. You obviously do since you bring it up. Why does his party matter?

And he didn't say anything illuminating so there was nothing to discuss except pointing out his failure to understand/articulate that Foreign aid is what gives America influence in the countries he mentioned. I find the fact that his chart was nonsensical to be a mark against his team's research and the fact that he could not be bothered to learn to pronounce the name of the country he's going to highlight as a mark against his personality. Intelligent people takes the time to learn their subject, even how it's pronounced.

I suspect you and I are not that far away in our thinking.....We need serious cuts across the board. My point is that the video shows a symptom of how Congress is treating our budget, just as most of Congress didn't read or understand the health bill that just passed....I don't think realistically we can expect social security to change anytime soon...but sooner or later they've got to start thing about a replacement for it that we can afford. There is a whole list of over-funded, ineffectual government agencies that that need to be dropped or reorganized....but certainly have their budgets cut....I don't not think that taking the time to analyze the need and value of the current foreign aid is a waste of time....a 20% slash (about $7B) is serious money....it has to start some where.......

I guess you're thru with the nits and have nothing of value to add...

For all practical purposes, there are no legal solutions to this problem.

The aid accounts for a minuscule part of the budget, and that aid gains us direct or indirect favors from the countries receiving it. You think that aid is free? It almost always comes attached to strings that benefit us. Cutting it would be a fool's errand.

Already debunked. He is either not in the loop or things or another arrogant partisan right wing republican. For one, US military bases in other countries are according to him equal to aid..

Aid is 0.5% of the federal budget I believe.. peanuts to say the least.

A very petty statement. Have anything substantive, or just more of the same?
