"WASHINGTON, July 8 (Reuters) - U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins said on Tuesday that there will be "no amnesty" for agricultural workers from the Trump administration's efforts to deport all immigrants in the country illegally.
The farm sector has warned that mass deportation of farm workers would disrupt the U.S. food supply. The administration of President Donald Trump in June signaled it might pause raids on some farm worksites before reversing course.

Rollins said the administration wants a 100% American workforce and suggested some people receiving government aid could replace immigrant workers. "Ultimately, the answer on this is automation, also some reform within the current governing structure. And then also, when you think about, there are 34 million able-bodied adults in our Medicaid program. There are plenty of workers in America," she said at a press conference outside the Department of Agriculture headquarters."

Or as Trump might say, "Who knows?" Last week it was Hegseth saying we weren't sending weapons to Ukraine.

Plus, I believe many people ion Medicaid are already working.

Talk about a presidency "on the fly."

34M able bodied Medicaid workers? Did she pull that out her ass?

Illegal is the key.
If they want seasonal farm workers, fix the law, give them a work permit for a specified time, and go home. This has been a problem for many decades and both parties are at fault. It's another typical case of don't fix it because then we have no issues to beat each other up with at election time.
Honestly I think we need 535 new members of Congress who have no ties to big business or political associations that taint their thinking. Our politicians are not doing the best things all the time. #1 get reelected. Sure screws with their thinking.

Convincing a politician to get off the big business teat for the sake of the people is a tall order. Especially when the POTUS has turned the office of the presidency into a grift machine (bibles, sneakers, watches, bitcoin, etc.)

Every little piggy wants their turn at the trough.

I think the good guys tend not to hang around for long. They quickly realize the system stinks, the deals that they have to make to keep getting reelected either run them off or corrupt them.

Sadly, the system is all we have at the moment. You pick your own poison and hope you get the lesser of two evils.

And then of course there is the fact that very, very, very few politicians can mount a successful campaign without a sizeable war chest.

A war chest too often filled by big business, and they expect payback once a candidate wins.

I wonder how many of those "able bodied" persons can actually do the work or are reliable or have transportation etc.

This is incredibly inappropriate.

Amnesty for those who self identify and leave, would be shown by an expedited entry process after a short period of time.

You mean a return to the Bracero Program.

Absolutely. And, if you are in the U.S Congress you are required to fund raise for the party war chest. Don't earn your keep you get lousy committee appointments and don't be surprised if you get primaried by your own party. Politics is a dirty business. Lawyers, car salesmen, politicians. who is slimier?

What truly is mind boggling, is the extent Americans will go to, to avoid resolving ANY political issue permanently.

From 4 days ago. So which is it?
He keeps flip flopping. Don't worry, Stephen Miller will overturn his attempts to suck up to farmers in a few days.

Half the farm workers are already legal. All we have to do is get the other half to be legal too. It can be done.

34M able bodied Medicaid workers? Did she pull that out her ass?
Probably. There's 78 million people currently receiving Medicaid. 2/3 are currently working.

As usual though, MAGApies face no penalty for, and are not ashamed of, blatant self-serving lies.

It does not take much to see where this is headed. Enslave the poor in work camps under "ownership responsibility".
It was always coming. These people have to avenge their fathers' loss of Jim Crow and grandpappy's slavery somehow.

Fake narrative. ⬆️

Nobody is forcing anyone to work.
Though, why shouldn't those who are able to work be given automatic Medicaid benefits? That dog no longer hunts.
Those receiving Medicaid benefits and are able to work are now being given the option to fulfill their work requirement by doing farm work.

And yet another clueless Trump appointee.
Appease the master, does not matter if facts and reality get in the way.

Everyone knows the requirements do much more to kick eligible people off for not doing the paperwork right than the TV viewers you all harp on. But even then, if they go uncovered, they'll use the emergency room and cost us more.

Where is TACO and his administration proposing that? Enabling and incentivizing that?
