US citizens jailed in LA Ice raids speak out: ‘They came ready to attack’

'Policing' - enforcing the laws - is what the government is attempting to do. No one is suggesting we have a 'police state'.

Normal policing enforces laws while respecting rights and using force only when necessary, but a police state uses law enforcement to control people through fear, surveillance, violence, the threat of violence, and suppression of dissent. Right now they are rounding up random people off the street. This is not the kind of country I want to live in. I don’t know why you would.

That's very different. There is no 'North Korea' style government being created.

Trump just used emergency powers, declaring a fake public emergency in DC, taking control of the city’s police, and deploying federal forces, including the Guard, despite historically low crime rates.

Wake up.

This is all rhetoric, and is not very helpful in having a discussion on these issues.

I’m calling it like it is.

Maybe just don’t care?

If Trump became a dictator tomorrow, you’d be happy with it?

False. This is rhetoric.

The 'crime rates' don't match reality. Note that the police union doesn't believe the stats, and there's a precinct commander on suspension for trying to falsify the statistics.

I’m calling it like it is.
[deflection removed]
You are parroting rhetoric - you just provided two examples. I'm not happy with a number of Trump's decisions, and changes under this administration. But at least be honest.

I've told you before, I'm happy to have a reasoned discussion, but I'm not interested in deflection or name calling. Take care.

You responded with:

False. This is rhetoric.

My response:

It's happening every day.

These are just a few examples:
  • 4-year-old U.S. citizen boy with Stage-4 cancer, deported to Honduras with his mother (lawyers say she wasn’t given a choice, DHS claims she chose to go).
  • 2-year-old U.S. citizen girl, deported with her mother in a similar case.
  • Job Garcia, U.S. citizen doctoral student detained for 25 hours after filming a Home Depot raid in Hollywood.
  • Julio Noriega, age 54, U.S. citizen detained for 10 hours in Chicago after being picked up in a sweep, released without arrest being documented.
  • Other unnamed U.S. citizens, attorneys and advocates report additional cases where citizens were arrested during sweeps, sometimes for filming raids, then taken to detention centers and released without charges.
  • Fiscal year 2025 ICE data (likely undercount, per advocates): 7 U.S. citizens arrested

The 'crime rates' don't match reality.

Your claim that crime‑rate figures don’t match reality is unsupported. The official data and independent analyses confirm substantial decline since 2023.

CCJ doesn't use DOJ data, it aggregates data directly from the municipalities:

If you have something to back up your claim other than the BULLSHIT spewing from Trump's fat mouth, present it to me.

Note that the police union doesn't believe the stats,

That's correct, but he's not the last word on this matter, and neither is Trump.

and there's a precinct commander on suspension for trying to falsify the statistics.

Mayor Bowser said the chief reviewed all seven districts and found the concern was "with one person" in one district and that they "don’t believe it implicates many cases."
