WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - The United States has approved sending F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine from Denmark and the Netherlands to defend against Russian invaders as soon as pilot training is completed, a U.S. official said on Thursday.
Ukraine has actively sought the U.S.-made F-16 fighter jets to help it counter Russian air superiority.
Washington gave Denmark and the Netherlands official assurances that the United States will expedite approval of transfer requests for F-16s to go to Ukraine when the pilots are trained, the official said.

This could have been done sooner. It still won't happen until early next year.

A game changer. We need to end the war as soon as possible, by destroying the invaders' forces in Ukraine

I do not support this stupid move by the Biden administration. Warhawks all of them.

What if Putin thinks the same way?

Duck and cover y’all.

Trump calls Putin 'genius' and 'savvy' for Ukraine invasion

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday described Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine as “genius” and “savvy,” praising his onetime counterpart for a move that has spurred sanctions and universal condemnation from the U.S. government and its trans-Atlantic allies.

“I went in yesterday and there was a television screen, and I said, ‘This is genius.’ Putin declares a big portion of the Ukraine — of Ukraine — Putin declares it as independent. Oh, that’s wonderful,” Trump said in a radio interview with “The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show.” “He used the word ‘independent’ and ‘we’re gonna go out and we’re gonna go in and we’re gonna help keep peace.’ You gotta say that’s pretty savvy.”

Yeah...........and I'll give them 3-4 weeks before 90% of them are out of action.

Nobody is talking about the technical and logistical requirements of US fighter jets, or Ukraine's ability to keep them up in the air.

They are not the magic elixir that some people are dreaming up.

I have a question? first Ukrainian pilot would have to train on those jets which doesn't happen overnight, where would they be based ? no airfield in Ukraine is safe, they are high maintenance with high end technicians needed they have to be armed and refueled, this can't be done in some farmers bean field, any answers to those questions?

Freshly trained Ukrainian pilots in F-16's are no match for seasoned Russian pilots in the MIG.

Now throw some CIA types in the the cockpit and the playing field changes drastically.

That would take us one more step to a Russian attack on a Nato Country, i believe they would be operating out of a Nato Country, now that would be a game changer for everyone, when will Bidens madness end?

That would take us one more step to a Russian attack on a Nato Country,
Indeed. Russia most likely would send in cruise missiles in attempts to take out the planes.

Im pretty sure theyve thought of that too and are working on it.

Not sure why the US needs to approve the sovereign nations of Denmark and Netherlands's sending F-16 to Ukraine.
Export controls?

We barely keep 60% of our fighter jets available and Ukraine is magically going to match our availability rate?

The pro-Russia crowd thinks biff, bam, boom, F-16's omehow just magically appear in Ukraine without anything being thought out and planned.

Derp

Pro Russia?

About as meaningful coming from you as it is coming from a bag lady on the street.

Are F-16's really still a match for Russian aircraft and SAM's?

F-22's or F-35's, maybe even FA-18 Super Hornets, but F16's, I just don't know.

More good news for the weapons manufacturers.

Leopards, himars, storm shadows all game changers, they didn't change a damn thing.

?

HIMARS had a very noticeable and significant impact on the battlefield as numerous Russian sources stated.

no airfield in Ukraine is safe,

Yet the Ukrainians are still flying sorties, and Russian efforts to destroy the Ukrainian air force on the ground completely failed.

they are high maintenance with high end technicians needed they have to be armed and refueled,

This is true of any modern aircraft.

If there's one thing this war has shown about all else, the VVS is nowhere near as capable as previously thought.

What makes F-18s a better match than F-16s?

Ukraine is largely a flat country and most of their fighter pilots will end up having to use BVR tactics.

The upgrades over the years with the F16 radar and missile capabilities still makes it a viable platform.

Ukraine keeping them in the air is another story altogether................ unless we send Americans and countless money to support them.

What BS. Ukraine has managed to master all Western weapon systems made available, and even expanded on their usage.

Many European nations are very familiar with the F-16 and will train the Ukrainian pilots. There are probably more F-16's in the world than any other jet fighter.

Only the naive put forth the notion that neither the US, nor Ukraine, nor any European nations have considered this from all angles and have concluded that F-16's for Ukraine is very doable.

You should stick to what you know best swabbie.... ship boiler rooms.

You should break your nasty and uninformed habit of calling doubters "Pro Russian"

You gab all the time about the military and only get it right about 50% of the time.

Ukraine can barely keep up with the remaining jets they have now, but here you are touting the F-16 being as their magic fix. A jet that is extremely maintenance and knowledge skills intensive for the best military on earth.

By the way.......this boiler room sailor earned his ASWS insignia onboard the Uss Inchon.

The best US Navy availability rate of the F-16 and other platforms is around 60% and we have the best trained people on the planet looking after them. The best on the planet!

Yeah................Ukraine is going to be saved by the F-16.
