The United States has been added to the Civicus Monitor Watchlist, which identifies countries that the global civil rights watchdog believes are currently experiencing a rapid decline in civic freedoms.

Civicus, an international non-profit organization dedicated to “strengthening citizen action and civil society around the world”, announced the inclusion of the US on the non-profit’s first watchlist of 2025 on Monday, alongside the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Italy, Pakistan and Serbia.

Mandeep Tiwana, co-secretary general of Civicus, said that the watchlist “looks at countries where we remain concerned about deteriorating civic space conditions, in relation to freedoms of peaceful assembly, association and expression”.

The selection process, the website states, incorporates insights and data from Civicus’s global network of research partners and data. The decision to add the US to the first 2025 watchlist was made in response to what the group described as the “Trump administration’s assault on democratic norms and global cooperation”.

Trump will be a historical stain on America. A bit like a skid mark that never goes away in the wash.

In before the "who cares what the commies think" crowd try to derail the thread.

The way Trump is destroying our world reputation is sickening. Very few people realized how fragile we would be in the face of someone who has no respect for political norms, law and traditions.

“Trump administration’s assault on democratic norms and global cooperation” = Rapid decline in civic freedom ?!

Is that liberal math?

Global civic freedom - US participation - US support = less global civic freedom

Is it more clear to you now?

He already is a stain.

There must be some part of "Trump is a scoundrel" his supporters don't get.

Why did they elect a criminal?

How could they possibly expect respectable service from a crook?

He's on the make to take. Get it?

(Apparently not, which is mind-blowing. I guess that's the point. Is it that this desire to 'own the libs' is so strong it doesn't matter if the nation, and the right with it, is hurt in so doing?)

No. They added USA to the list. That means civic freedom IN the USA.

Added by whom? A bunch of politically minded progresssives playing politics.
Here is the reason they gave for adding the USA to their list. According to Civicus.
The government cancelled payments to foreign countries for wasteful programs, to cut payments for politically motivated DEI programs in the U.S and in foreign countries. The government closed USAID for mismanagement of funds.

I'm sure you know DEI is a far left progressive program that conservatives disagree with and therefore cut the funding of those programs. The decision to put the U.S. on the watch list if purely politically motivated.
Therefore, who gives a shit?

Brought to you by the people who tried to create a Ministry of Truth to silence opposing views and spent four years complaining about "freedumbs" - you can't make this stuff up!
