Unbelievable. Trump has pushed China to embargo Taiwan.

Trump's China tariff has left them few options.

I'm not getting what you're saying here.

would be nice to have a link to a news story so we know what this is about.

I posted an argument that I think could happen and deserves discussion.

Without chips from Taiwan our economy will collapse. That is China's only economic leverage.
It's a tariff though, not an embargo. It's Trump taxing the country on a necessary import. China and Taiwan don't care how much their products are taxed, long as it's American consumers paying the tax.
If American companies could produce those products, for 25% or whatever less, they would be already.

That is not my point. China's economy is already precarious. The US depends on chips from Taiwan. China can easily stop all chips from leaving Taiwan. It is only a hundred miles away. It would require a war to break the blockade.

They care if less of their products gets sold to US market because it's suddenly too expensive for US consumer.

Wasn't the CHIPS Act designed to reduce our dependence on Taiwan for semiconductors? We learned our lesson after COVID when cars that required chips were sitting at ports. Or maybe this hasn't gone anywhere? Just asking. I admittedly don't know the answer.

Soon, we won't need chips from Taiwan. Taiwan will be making them right here in the US.

When will that be?
Don't know, but nobody can snap their fingers and make it happen, if that's what you want.

Trump has backed China into a corner and Taiwan is their only leverage. I am watching the China market news now. Tune in Bloomberg China. This is how wars start.

They don't care if their products are necessary to US consumers and the US consumers will reluctantly pay the tariffs.
And the US consumers will fire off emails to their congresscritters.
Karen is American. Don't bet that the US population will outlast the rest of the world when a trade war starts to impose inconvenience and deprivation.

Your thread title stated that Trump pushed China to embargo Taiwan like it was fact when it was really “clickbait.” I’ll get back to you when it actually happens—like World War III.

You must really dislike Trump's hyperbolic speech.

White House Says Taiwan Tariffs Won’t Apply to Chips. China says no worries we will buy them all.

It depends on where they sell. Companies that sell say 50% of their product to US will obviously care are lot more than those that sell 25%.

And the US consumers will fire off emails to their congresscritters.

That won't make a dent for a long while.

I did not say I'd bet that.

China has practised blockading Taiwan in large-scale military exercises off the island’s north, south and east coasts. The Chinese People's Liberation Army deployed warships, aircraft and artillery for the drills, which simulated strikes on ground and maritime targets and aerial interceptions. Beijing’s announcement of the war games referred to Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te as a ‘parasite’ and delivered a ‘stern warning’ against Taiwanese independence activists.

I think chips from Taiwan and South Korea were something Trump begrudgingly left out of the tariffs because Elon begged him. At least he made chips an exception, for now.
