We knew Igor Girkin and other members of the Club of Angry Patriots could be critics, simply telling the truth by calling the leadership in Putin’s army corrupt and incompetent, but there seems to be a growing problem in the ranks. Either the former self-proclaimed governor of Donetsk has a death wish like Yevgeny Prigozhin, or he knows something we don’t:

A leading Russian ultranationalist has launched a scathing attack on Vladimir Putin and called on the army to rise up in rebellion against the Kremlin regime. Pavel Gubarev is a veteran of the so-called "Russian Spring" and was a staunch supporter of Putin's attempts to annex Ukraine's eastern provinces in 2014.…

After fighting in Ukraine with Putin's army in 2022, he went on to become one of the leaders of the Russian ultranationalist group the Club of Angry Patriots….

In an appeal to the Russian army, he said: "While the war with the external enemy is going on, our criminal government is fighting against the interests of the country and specifically against the Russian people, causing damage to Russian statehood incomparably greater than what Ukraine (together with NATO) is doing.

They flip out too many times, they go to prison. That's how it works in Russia. Don't expect any miraculous revolutions. The worst that will happen for Putin is he'll have to dumb his officers' corp down a bit yet again to account for his already legendary, but growing incompetence and contemptibility.

Gubarev justified his call to arms due to concern that Russia was crumbling due to "a growing crisis in the economy and public life" and the real possibility of military defeat in Ukraine. He argued that the only thing keeping Putin in power was fear, which "permeates the entire system." "Putinism is a system of power relations based on fear," he said. "In Putinism, fear is the main emotion on which the entire system of society is built. "The elements of the system are afraid of each other (bureaucrats of the security forces, security forces of the bureaucrats, judges of both). "The institutions of civil society have been destroyed and replaced by fully controlled imitation structures." He added that Putin had created a cult of personality that is "deified" by his true believers.

One could easily substitute Trump/Trumpism in the above harangue wherever Gubarev uses Putin/Putinism.

Gubarev is not a peracenik. He is a Russian reactionary who would like nothing better than seeing Russia occupy all of Ukraine. In 2022, Gubarev signed a short-term contract with the Russian Armed Forces, as a private, in order to participate in the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During his service there, he declared in an interview their goal to free from "possession" those who he considers to be Russians, even at the cost of killing them all, which would amount to genocide on Ukrainians.

"Ukrainians are Russian people, who are possessed. We aren't coming to kill you, but to convince you. But if you don't want us to convince you, we'll kill you. We'll kill as many as necessary: 1 million, 5 million, or exterminate all of you." - PG

I have no illusions that this guy is some sort of democratic peacenik. But in his writings he is surprisingly frank, stark, and, more importantly, I think accurate in his assessment of how “the good guys”—Russian separatists and the Russian people—are doing under “Putinism,” which he’s come to despise as self-serving and overly repressive. What I find particularly interesting are not only his surprisingly frank assessments on the current state of the SVO (disastrous), but also his observations on the increasingly fluid state of political affairs within Russia itself. I think his perception that Putin has become increasingly vulnerable politically due to the deteriorating conditions within the country may explain some of his recent especially harsh rhetoric. There may be a measure of attacking the “sick chicken” within the flock.

Yeah, when you openly advise an army of proles to hold onto their guns while referring to the leader of a corrupt political system as a “czar” and members of his oligarchic elite as “boyars,” your odds of simply ending up in prison on trumped-up charges like Igor Girkin or Ivan Popov are probably not very good. Here’s an example of Gubarev when he’s feeling charitable:

And he’s not too keen about the people Putin’s sent in to help rebuild Eastern Ukraine, either:

Remember, Gubarev has been in Donetsk politics since 1999, and has been deeply involved with military operations in the Donbas since war first broke out in 2014. Putin doesn’t need him as an enemy.

.

This Igor Girkin has to be the latest "Great White Hope" coughed up in the west to take out the Jack Johnson of Russian politics Vladimir Putin.* Other hopes before him include Navalny, the Wagner guy Yevgeny Prigozin

*Jack Johnson was a champion dominant boxer at the turn of last century, in the thick of Jim Crow era. Problem is Jack Johnson had a very high subcutaneous melanin content that gave him a high light absorption coefficient that did not sit well with Jim Crow America. Hence the hope for a proper low subcutaneous melanin content to take out the troublesome Jack Johnson

Another one I wonder about is Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Putin recently met with him on “Victory Day” ahead of visits with foreign heads of state. Supposedly, Kadyrov asked to be relieved of duty while Putin said nonsense, he still had his “undying” support. Still, I understand that he’s been feeling a bit pekid of late, and if I were him I’d be sending out samples of my Nokhchi Sorpa for testing. The senior Chechen warlord should be at or near the top of anyone’s dead pool draft list. He’s like Aaron Judge or Ja’Marr Chase in fantasy. 🤙

Igor Girkin, or “Strelkov,” was one of the aggrieved “Ukrainians” installed to save ethnic Russians from the “Nazis” in Kiev, remember? Then it turns out he was a Russian FSB officer and military commander who became the “Minister of Defense” in Donetsk. Then he got a bit too big for his britches and ended up up in prison. 🤷‍♂️

The relevant point is Russia’s SVU army is not a truly professional, disciplined force. It’s becoming a laughing stock, which Putin nonetheless seems to be leaning on more and more to help keep him in power as the grumbling level among Russian elites rises. People don’t seem to be as fearful when it comes to publicly criticizing him. So we’re left to wonder whether his leadership is becoming more and more tenuous.

Ignoring the plight of average soldiers like Putin is doing is something a leader does at his peril. And locking up respected leaders like Major General Popov only because he pled their case to the top military brass is also not very bright. Putin would be moving up in my dead pool draft, too. I’ll be shocked if he’s still president in five years. If he lives it likely will be in a cell in The Hague. As an internal political matter, that would probably be the best way to deal with him. Make him someone else’s problem.

Regarding war crimes, Donald Trump would rather give his pal Putin a pass. He has ordered AG Pam Bondi to withdraw the US from the group investigating Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine, and Bondi also disbanded the DoJ unit that investigated Russian subversion in the United States.

Just once can we not make a thread about Donald Trump? Is that even possible?

Trump IS the US president. Trump said the Ukraine/Russia negotiations in Istanbul cannot transpire without HIM present.

What I posted is germane to US current relations with Russia. (i.e. Trump has terminated all US government investigations into criminal Russian behaviors, both here and abroad)

Don't blame others that your boy Trump is infatuated with a war criminal.

He’s not “my boy.” I didn’t vote for him. Stop making assumptions you know nothing about, and try to stay focused on the actual thread. Then you’ll be golden! 😉

Many of your posts support and defend Trump/MAGA.
