Apparently the sums add up but it doesnt sit well with me. It sounds like welfares for rich people.

The facilities are supposedly top notch anyway and if they want to stimulate the film insustry they coulld invest in some Ealing comedies.

It seems perverse when the government is intent on killing disabled people and starving children.

The money was ostensibly to help support the film industry in the UK in general. Whether this is a worthy social goal for the UK or not is not something I have an opinion on though.

I am thinking that there are better things to invest in.

I don't know which is more scandalous here: The money the UK shelled out at taxpayers' expense or the fact that another Jurassic World movie is being made.

I saw the first jurassic film and cheered for the dinos when they were trying to eat those awful kids.

Well that is an option but I was thinking more like council housing or even bin collections.
Bin collectors are most private companies and no way would even a labour government start making council housing as that would decrease the value of existing homes and hence put a lot of people under water so to say.. and cause massive economic harm to the UK.

In America, welfare for the richest is most of what we do. At least you guys get a movie out of it.

There is a current program to build millions of houses - Reform supporters have been trying to say the houses will be built by immigrants and they will house illegal immigrants.

According to the article - the money spent comes back multiplied into the UK economy. I see no problem with it.

Every country has its problems, but look at this shitshow. Just look at it.

You’re still making money on the deal. Use that profit to fund your wish lists.

Which I doubt will happen.... its not in the interest of both parties to devalue the housing stock to such a degree that prices fall.

I hope they do, currently, the only people benefitting from high prices in the South are Norwegian pension funds, Chinese and Russian Oligarchs and Oil ministers from the middle east.

If the UK wants social mobility and for people up north to travel and work in the south without breaking themselves financially, something has to happen.

Politics aside, it is rather common for governments to go after business using tax payer funding to secure economic development even if temporary.

Makes no difference if we are talking about industry appeal money for a movie, taking on partial funding for the development of a football arena, or favorable taxation to entice a business to build a manufacturing location in their area.

It is not all equal of course, can be very shady here and there, but it is designed to spur economic activity.

Ive got 3 20 year olds looking to buy with very little in their price range. Rents are high because the market is skewed. Goes back to thatcher and the original sell off.

I don't think it's all down to her - people started seeing houses as investments and not just homes. Brits have had a big impact on Northern France, buying up properties to do up and sell on for profit. The same thing here: so many people trying to get on the ladder for the chance of profit.

Really? Thatcher? I blame William Pitt the younger.
