You don't have any authority to put me under arrest. No court would recognize your authority to do so, and especially not to use deadly force. You would be found guilty of murder. How do you reform a situation where someone takes on authority, as you would be trying by attempting a stupid citizen's arrest (can't be made where I live). I don't care how "disgraceful" you find the argument.
Prove that she was "beat almost to death". Her ex-daughter in law claims that isn't what happened at all. And videotaped the incident.
Not so. Citizen arrest is a common law idea and is recognized in the United States and some states have gone as far as codifying the practice in their statutes.
A shopkeeper detaining a shoplifter has in essence effected a citizens arrest.
What citizens don't get that police do is qualified immunity. If the cop improperly detains you nothing will likely happen to him. If a citizen improperly detains someone he may face arrest himself.
In a typical year in the so-called “gang capitals” of Chicago and Los Angeles, around half of all homicides are gang-related; these two cities alone accounted for approximately one in four gang homicides recorded in the NYGS from 2011 to 2012.
Meanwhile, there were 2363 gang related homicides in 2012.
Moreover:
But, that was three years ago. I couldn't find stats more recent.
Does anyone believe that gang murders have gone down since then? Anyone... anyone?
It's interesting to note that most posters who are defending police here are applying their own circumstances to the problem. Middle class white people are imagining a lone encounter with police going south, and saying that you just go along with the arrest and argue in court. Instead, most of these victims are poor black kids who are harassed constantly by police and aren't often arrested. They're being subject to extrajudicial punishment from police and have no recourse in the courts to fight it, especially since they can't afford lawyers. Does anyone really think that an overworked public defender is going to explore constitutional issues of police conduct for them? Of course not. There's going to be a quick plea deal. NONE of the recourses and suggestions offered by comfortable middle class white people will help poor blacks escape constant harassment and abuse from police. And no one should have to simply obey in such a situation.
WASHINGTON, May 30 (Reuters) - U.S. police have shot and killed 385 people during the first five months of this year, a rate of more than two a day, the Washington Post reported on Saturday.
The victims ranged in age from 16 to 83. More than 80 percent were armed with potentially lethal objects, mostly guns. Ninety-two victims were identified as mentally ill.
The Post's analysis also indicates the daily death toll for 2015 is close to 2.6 as of Friday. At that pace, police will have shot and killed nearly 1,000 people by the end of the year, the paper said.

I'm scared as hell. How did it get this bad? When have they turned into bad characters? And why?! Do the police ever evaluate whether any of those killings are avoidable? or preventable? And what can we do to change the situation? Because the situation is really horrible!

There are certain risks associated with living in the United States. One of those risks is an out of control unaccountable police force. They can barge into your house and shoot your child in the back of the head. Or throw a flash grenade to incinerate your baby in it's crib. Or if you're driving down the street the cops can rob you off all the cash and valuables on your person (literal highway robbery). You're agreeing to that risk by driving, you're not agreeing to swat team swarming your house and shooting your kid or wife due to a mistaken identity.
Unless you attack police officers with weapons, resist arrest, or the like stop being scared, your fear is irrational paranoia
All police killings are avoidable, by the suspect.
Yea say that to the victims who were shot because they were running away from the cops, or the 80 year old granny that almost died because she was giving her grandchild baked goods
A third incident did not involve the death, but at a traffic stop in a parking lot the man was out of his truck as the cop pulls up, asks the man for id, the guy goes to get it from the truck, the cop opens fire hitting the man a few times.
Those are just a few

That's one of the favorite tactics of cops for killing people and getting away with it. Ask for ID and then when the person tries to get it cops claim that they were scared and kill the unwitting suspect. Many sociopaths like the thrill of killing and can sate their bloodlust by joining the police force.

This is why we need to legalize drugs...

That's very similar to the Tamir Rice shooting. Why, only the other day in my town, the stormtroopers, aka police, walked up to an adorable little five-year-old girl who was doing nothing more harmful than playing with a ball in her front yard, and shot her a dozen or more times in the head. They did it just for fun, as her mother looked on in horror. As the blood streamed out over the child's golden curls, the wretched murderers guffawed, and shocked witnesses recalled that the mother's anguished screams seemed to amuse them all the more.
I am not blaming anyone. I am quite sure the cops kill some people that are innocent once in a while.
But the odds of that happening to you if you do not break the law are probably minuscule.
Just the general odds - 1,000 out of 300+million is 300,000 to 1 against being killed by the police...I'd say those are pretty good odds. Don't break the law and those odds probably skyrocket to millions to one.
How on Earth you can be scared to death about being killed by a cop (assuming you are law abiding) when the odds are millions to one against it happening is beyond me.
