U.S. officials went door-to-door in Greenland to find anyone who wanted to be visited by the Vances. They found no one

How pathetic can it get?

Making America Great Again
Maybe Greenlanders are just jaded, tired of the constant procession of world celebrities clamouring for their attention. Must get tiresome, prominent world leaders lining up for seats in their living rooms.

That's what happens when you threaten to invade a friendly nation for no sane reason.

Greenland does not want to be part of the US any more than Canada does so Trumps goons can ****-off.
It's a sorry spectacle. America's standing and influence in the world is being torpedoed by the clown show in the White House.
As reported elsewhere, Putin has taken the side of a NATO member nation being threatened by territorial expansionism.
No way, nothing that happens can remedy the USA's standing worldwide now.

To be honest, I am only surprised that it took this long since the fall of the iron curtain for America to go absolutely batshit.

As a once proud American, I got no rebuttal here. A spade is spade.

You're obviously closer to the topic than I am but I wonder how much has to do with schools. I keep saying that American schools are designed to produce proud, loyal citizens, not informed critical thinkers. People of a certain level of intelligence, slightly above average, can and do read stuff for themselves, inform themselves, but the whole left side of the bell curve is easy to manipulate.
I used to work now and then with an Ironworker who had dual citizenship and an American wife and he lived close to the border near Point Roberts, Washington. There were certain tax advantages around mortgage payments for Americans and for booming out, working out of other locals, so I asked him why he didn't live across the border. He said he didn't want his kids going to an American school, like he had.

Quality of education here is directly linked to the wealth of the neighborhood that school is in, because the primary funding for schools is property taxes.

If you live in Oro Valley, you're going to get a better education than if you live in South Tucson.

With the elimination of the DOE, that disparity will increase by an order of magnitude.

MAGA is such a national embarrassment.
Seriously.
This isn't as emphatic, maybe, as the UN General Assembly laughing out loud at the US President but it's probably as disrespectful as it's possible for Greenlanders to be.
My wife's Metis from the Northwest Territories, I have some understanding of how northern and Arctic people are, and refusing hospitality is as contemptuous as they allow themselves to get.

Vance delivered a passive-aggressive threat of force today...

“We do not think military force is ever going to be necessary,” Vance said in response to a reporter’s question on whether there are military plans to take over the island.

“What we think is going to happen is that the Greenlanders are going to choose, through self determination, to become independent of Denmark, and then we’re going to have conversations with the people of Greenland from there.”

America is a fascist country and a threat to peaceful western democracies.

I remain a proud American. Nothing Traitor Trump could say/do to change that.
I actually stopped being 'proud' when I discovered we had a written policy and legal brief defended by the White House Presidentt for torturing Americans in our custody. We lost all the moral authority we dared claim to be proud of. Traitor Trump just further institutionalized our moral ambiguity. I am still loyal but I am not filled with any goosebumps when our national anthem is played or our flag is unfurled. That feeling is not in my bones, not inside me now.

You know things are bad when the locals are so pissed they can’t even hire crisis actors.

Theres LOTS of reasons why I'm not proud of the USA.

Anyone who is "proud" at this point....well thats just sad imo. The US is a parody of its former self. A complete joke.

Thats not to say there isnt some hope we could get back there again, but I wonder if it can happen with the sheer numbers of idiots walking around loose. I doubt it.

I’m not familiar with any “written policy and legal brief defended by the White House Presidentt for torturing Americans in our custody”.

The specific policy title, EO number/date, or other identifying information would be helpful.
We lost all the moral authority we dared claim to be proud of.
The one act that you refer to is what caused your loss of pride in being an American citizen?

Over more than 250 years in existence, considering all of the good and bad things done in the name of our country, this single action you purport is all it took for you to no longer be proud of being an American?

I must have a much thicker skin because even considering all of our failures/wrong actions weighed against all of the good that has been done by America/Americans here and around the world, on balance I remain proud of my country and identifying as an American.
Traitor Trump just further institutionalized our moral ambiguity.
Traitor Trump’s election in ‘16 and especially his reelection last year are inarguably very negative indicators of where many (not the majority) of Americans think we should be heading.

That the orange shit stain won by the smallest margin since ‘00, failing to win the majority of votes and is being challenged on every single unconstitutional EO, that many of his own voters are turning out at town halls giving their MAGAt Reps hell, his poll numbers remain underwater, and more gives me confidence that our country will survive the MAGAt movement.
I am still loyal but I am not filled with any goosebumps when our national anthem is played or our flag is unfurled. That feeling is not in my bones, not inside me now.
I don’t need to feel goosebumps at the sight of our national flag or playing of our national anthem.

My sense of pride isn’t tied to any public displays of patriotism.

That’s the kinda stuff MAGAts lose their microscopic minds over.

I'll be proud of the USA when and if there is again a USA.

This is not an intellectual exercise. I am telling you when I felt pride and that I no longer ever do. The feeling is either there, or it's not. Now I feel emotionally detached and sad that is all that is left. I won't be shamed into not feeling an emotion that I just don't. I realized that I stopped, once I learned that we had extensive executive staff within the Bush administration which justified and rationalized garbage law on 'enhanced interrogation' including walling, waterboarding sleep deprivation and hitting, and the resulting document was sent throughout multiple bureaucracies in order to do exactly that. Now you go ahead and feel all the pride you want. Evidently I need something more than you do to feel pride. this country fell short once too often in my lifetime for me to feel that is retains suffiecent moral authority to lead civilized nations on issues of ethics, or decency. Trump came along later.

Right, this is a debate forum.

My intent was not to shame you. You are absolutely entitled to your feelings.

Personally, I have no problem with treating a traitorous American Taliban member the same as any other enemy combatant prisoner.

I draw the line at abiding international law (Geneva Convention) with regards to all forms of torture (so-called enhanced interrogation methods).

Again, I recognize your right to feel however you choose.

My greatest shock was moving back to Canada after high school and finding out I had been lied to for four years...that there really were other nations that fought in WW2.

Then, gasp, that France has had a constitution too, and longer than America who invented freedom.

Much later I learned that most of the developed world had universal health care while America had none but America had a military four times the size of the rest of the world put together but couldn't beat some pajama wearing Asians in a remote jungle.

Then I found out Richard Nixon was dishonest.

To live is to learn. To learn is to make yourself miserable as ignorance really is bliss.

BTW - Point Roberts is a ghost town right now.
