CPI-W for July in at 2.7% (up 0.2% from June '25).

CPI-W for July is important because CPI for the months of July, August, and September are used to calculate the 2026 COLA for Social Security recipients and, additionally, federal pensions.

The projections for the SS COLA has been slowly rising since spring - from 2.5% to, now, 2.7%. Means more money coming out of SS....at a time when the labor market is shrinking (i.e., fewer workers paying into SS).

Worse, core inflation now 3.1%.
