The family of 55-year old Palestinian-American asked the U.S. State Department to help him after he was arrested for allegedly helping sell an Arab-owned property in the Old City of Jerusalem to a Jewish organization.

“The 55-year-old man, who is a US citizen, is being interrogated by the Palestinians security agencies in Ramallah for his role in the sale of an Arab-owned house in the Old City of Jerusalem to a Jewish organization,” sources told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday.

The man, a 55-year-old resident of Bethlehem who had worked for the PA Ministry for Local Government, reportedly received a $25,000 commision for facilitating the sale of the property owned by an Arab widow.

Based on Jordanian law, selling or renting land to Jews is considered treason under the Palestinian Authority and is punishable by death or hard labor. While Palestinian law does not apply in East Jerusalem, a 2014 Jerusalem Post article cited Bassem Eid, a Jerusalem-based Palestinian civil rights activist, as claiming he has followed cases of Jerusalemites kidnapped in the city and tortured to death in Ramallah by the Palestinian Authority’s Preventive Security Agency.

Israeli expansion and settlement at the expense of the Palestinian population is an ongoing process. Harsh and brutal measures have been taken by both sides. But sooner or later they both must acknowledge that the other has a right to exist.

Here we have a case not of illegal and/or immoral settlements but a simple transfer of a tract of land. And Palestinians go berserk about it. No such law to my knowledge stopping a Palestinian from buying Israeli property.

I do agree with your final sentence though.
 
My parents bought their house in 1950 in Chicago, and written into the contract was they could not sell to Blacks or Puerto Ricans.
 

Actually it's a Muslim thing.
Once land is Muslim land, it is always Muslim land.
 

The reason for the angry Palestinian response is because of the context in which this single event, irrelevant by itself, takes place; i.e. of Israeli expansion at Palestinian expense. This context must be addressed first, without which the issue is not clear and no progress can be made.

No it’s not. The democratic caucus has two members one of whom is Palestinian who are openly calling for Israel’s end as a sovereign state. This is exactly the kind of behavior the left in America has been supporting and now these people are fixing to kill a US citizen for facilitating a voluntary transaction. This is why no American should be supporting any Palestinian causes

The Palestinians will never acknowledge this. Ever.

They could have their own state fully sovereign tommorow if they did.

What should’ve occured was a full on eminent domain process. Value all of the land of Palestinians and pay them 500 percent value and move them into Iraq.

There is no way muslims will ever see to being permitted to live under a Jewish government, it just won’t happen.

Covenant provisions like this have usually been unenforceable and in any event failure to abide to them was a civil issue and not a capital offense

Funny thing for you to whine about, since your assertion that I responded to was an outright lie.

Why do you support imposing the death penalty on this man?
 
1. It's the justice system, not the punishment system.
2. The death penalty does not deter crime. This is a statistical fact.
3. The death penalty does encourage murder through the justification of the rationalization of killing a helpless captive. "If the government can do it for their reasons..."

The death penalty is counter-productive and sets a bad example.
 

The prohibition to selling to Jews goes back decades and predates the creation of Israel by quite some time....

Interestingly it was the Ottomans that first allowed Jews to purchase land. The 1873 land emancipation act gave Jews the right to own land in Palestine under their own name.

The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem Amin al-Husseini was one who believed in the prohibition once he came into power (he also colluded with Hitler and helped draft Muslim SS during his time.)

Sort of like the death penalty for allegedly selling atomic secrets to the Soviet Union. Both acts were and are existential threats to the state or nation in question. Presumably the gentlemen in question knew the long-established laws as a real estate broker. You may not agree with the law or the harsh penalty but one man's land lot is another man's A-bomb when national survival is on the line. And one man's kidnapping is another man's extraordinary rendition.

However none of this excuses extra judicial killings.

actually this was pre-civil rights.
I remember growing up in my lily white NW, neighborhood, there were nothing but whites, except for the single Chinese family who owned the hand laundry.
Yes, at that time it would be enforced.
