U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert resigned his position Friday amid pressure from Trump administration officials to bring a criminal case against New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Siebert, the U.S. attorney for the eastern district of Virginia, informed employees at his office in Alexandria of his decision to resign in an email that was obtained by ABC News.

"For the last eight months, I have had the pleasure of leading the finest and most exceptional of DOJ employees, who care deeply about our nation and our EDVA community," Siebert wrote. "Thank you for the lessons you have taught me, the sacrifices you have made, and the pursuit of justice you strive for every day."

Siebert was notified of the president's intention to fire him Thursday, sources said, and Trump said Friday afternoon in the Oval Office that he wanted Siebert "out" of his position.

ABC News has reported that Trump was expected to fire Siebert after investigators were unable to find incriminating evidence of mortgage fraud against James, according to sources. Trump officials had pushed Siebert to bring charges against James, despite investigators failing to find clear evidence that she committed a crime, sources said.

"It looks to me like she is very guilty of something, but I really don't know," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Friday.

When asked about Siebert, Trump said he wanted him "out" of the position because Virginia's two Democratic Senators supported his nomination. Trump nominated Siebert for the position in May, and he has served as the interim U.S. attorney since Trump's inauguration.

This is FASCISM cloaked in a Broken Promise to Save America. What you are witnessing day to day coming from the Executive Branch is the un-checked balance of power to use the Department of Justice as a weapon targeting those who held the law higher than the President. For Trump, He firmly believes he can do anything because he is the President and is above the Law.

He didn't bring criminal charges against her because she was not guilty of anything. Of course Trump would never let a little thing like innocence get in the way of persecuting any of his political foes. This is a truly evil man who is without a conscience.

If that's the disqualifying criteria, seems he should have considered that before nominating him. 🤪

SCOTUS for the most part placed a President above the law
Your system of Governance is failing.

The important part of the story is that Siebert refused to prosecute the NY AG, L. James, because he determined there was insufficient evidence.

We are at a point where the president decides to prosecute political opponents and if the prosecutor won’t, they get fired.

Lol. Fascism. Tell me, was it fascism when James ran for office on the promise of using the entire power of her office to go after a single person--Trump?

Criminal Prosecutors always run for office with a strong stance against the corrupt white collar criminals of New York City. She won not only the election but she forced Trump to bow to the Law as he was forced to show up to the supreme court SDNY to have his day in court. Note he lost and is now a convicted felon on all 34 counts. So it is without prejudice that his ass will be dragged back into court in the future to pay for his sins.

Thats not what she did. She went after one man. But of course you commies have no problem with that.

No, she said she was going to go after Trump.
As hard as it is to accept the fact the DA was upholding the law, we see you are brainwashed into thinking that Trunp is innocent of the 34 counts he was indicted on by a grand jury and convicted by a jury of his peers. I bet you swallow all of Trumps goo.
