Egypt, traditionally a U.S. ally, could be seeking to acquire Chinese J-35 fighter jets, according to aviation and defense outlets. The J-35 fighter jet, modeled after the American F-35, is gaining more appeal as China, competing with the U.S., seeks to expand its influence in South Asia, the Middle East and the broader Arab region. Egyptian Air Force Commander Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Abdel Gawad has reportedly shown interest in China's J-35 stealth fighter, according to the Belgian-based Army Recognition Group, which specializes in military analysis. Egypt's push to modernize its aging F-16 fleet is constrained by financial hurdles and further complicated by restrictive terms attached to Western weapon systems.
Retired Egyptian army officer Sayed Ghoneim said of possible moves to acquire J-35s: "This could reduce the share of American weaponry in the Egyptian military—a shift that might ripple across other markets in the region and beyond, as Egypt is considered a key reference point for countries assessing the quality of global weapons systems. This was evident with Egypt's acquisition of the French Rafale, and especially in light of its openness to importing arms from other countries such as South Korea and Germany, as well as purchasing components from various other sources." Egypt's prime minister said China's President Xi Jinping is expected to visit his country, describing this as "a turning point" for stronger cooperation amid global and regional instability—though no dates were officially announced.
Canada is also joining the ReArm Europe. We wouldn't buy Chinese fighter jets for obvious reasons but South Korea is making a strong pitch for their KF-21.Everyone is now thinking twice about buying US military products, and Europe especially is ramping up it's own production to avoid buying US products. As Europe ramps up, that provides the rest of the world with more non-US options.

Foreign governments no longer fully trust the Trump administration due to factors such as Trump having expansionist designs on Greeenland and Panama, the on-again off-again Trump tariffs, and Trump not fully backing Ukraine against Russian aggressibn.

Might they be persuaded to let US pilots fly them ?
I'm fairly sure China will train prospective Egyptian pilots.
More nations are looking at Chinese weaponry. There is no mercurial Tump administration to deal with.
I'm fairly sure they will, in China
But what about when Egypt takes possession of them and makes them operational ?

The J-35 is superior to the F-35 in many ways so it depends on what the nation in question needs out of a plane.
The J-35 is a lot faster and more suited to air-to-air combat unlike the F-35 who's main role is air-to-ground operations. The F-35 is a far longer range but for defensive purposes a country may not need that.
Perhaps you should inform the nations thinking of buying it about this because I guess they don't know?Wow, interesting but also fictional.
Yes, the J-35 is faster. By about 60 mph. That is actually a pretty insignificant speed difference when talking about speeds measured in excess of 800 mph.
And the F-35A has a "far longer range"? Well, in this you are dead wrong. The J-35 has a combat range of 770 miles, the F-35A has a combat range of 760 miles. Once again, an insignificant difference.
But the main role of the F-35 is not close air support. It can conduct both air interdiction missions as well as ground support, the only difference is the loadout. So once again, a nonsensical statement. Especially when you consider the F-35 is not "an aircraft", it is three aircraft. Each one very different than the other two. And the main missions will be determined mostly by who is going to be flying them.
For the F-35A, those will be flown by the Air Force so that would mostly be air-to-air. For the F-35B, that will be flown by the Marines. And mostly those would be air to ground, but also air to air as those would be the primary platform for providing Combat Air Patrols over the amphibious group they are assigned to.
Now the F-35C once again will vary, depending on who is flying. You see, those would be both Marines and Navy. And in most situations, those would be configured for CAP duties. Air to Air, with some of the loadout dedicated for anti-ship requirements. And if there is a need for air to ground, primarily the Marines flying the F-35C on a carrier will assume those duties, allowing the Navy to continue with their more traditional CAP duties. Of course, there is no hard rule about this, that will vary a lot based on local situation.
And operating independently? That makes absolutely no sense.
In fact, almost everything you stated is almost completely nonsensical.
However, there is something else that should absolutely be considered. As of this time, over 1,700 F-35s in the various configurations have been built and delivered to a dozen countries. With 8 additional nations awaiting delivery (at this time the backlog is 2-3 years).
China? They have built 8 of their J-35, and it is still in the testing phase. None have yet to be delivered anywhere for service, even though they have been in testing for 13 years now. And most are not expecting them to actually enter service until much closer to 2030. And that is one thing most who actually watch China and their armaments are more than well aware of. They tend to always have rather significant periods of time between announcing a program, first testing, and actually entering into operational service.
The J-34 started as the F-60/FC-31 back in 2011. And it has had multiple different names during that phase of the program. And the first prototype was shown off at an air show in 2014. That is over a decade ago, and in that decade they have made an additional 7. To give a comparison, the F-35A went from prototype to first deliveries in 6 years. The J-35 will most likely be much closer to 20 years before serial production and delivery.

But I thought all these nations were going to reject the F-35 because they don't like Trump. Is more like you do not know, and are blowing smoke.
As I said already, a dozen nations are already using various configurations of the F-35. And 8 more have ordered them but are awaiting shipment (as I stated already, a 2-3 year backlog). And India is considering purchasing them.
To be honest, I rather doubt that Egypt would buy any, nor do I think the US will sell them any. That is not exactly the most stable country in the region, with a coup in 2013, and the current President has been in power since 2014, and ran for re-election even though their Constitution prohibited it and "won" in what is considered one of the most corrupt elections in recent years. And short of another coup will be in office until 2030.
And what other nations have been interested?
Well, Taiwan. But the US decided to reject their request out of fears of Espionage.
Then there is Thailand. Once again, that request was denied by the US.
Turkey was going to buy up to 100 of them, but once again the US decided not to sell it to them.
The other nation that expressed interest is UAE. Once again, a request the US refused.
The US is not willing to sell the F-35 to just any nation, this is not the F-4 or F-5. Those were either created primarily for export, or lived on long past their life in the US military as popular export aircraft for other nations. 14 nations used the F-4 other than the US, 3 of them are still using it. The F-5 was actually never accepted in any real numbers by the US military. And what US units did use it was primarily as aggressor aircraft in training as it had similar characteristics to the MiG-21 (one of the largest units was the Navy's "Top Gun" school). However, the F-5 was exported to a staggering 36 nations. And 16 of those nations are still using it to this day.
What in the hell makes you think that the US would sell the F-35 to any nations that are not already buying it? Once again, you are making things up that make absolutely no sense.
Nobody in their right mind would enter into a deal with the current POTUS*.
But I thought all these nations were going to reject the F-35 because they don't like Trump.
Isn't that a leftist talking point?
The whole site is about politics.I do not know, and could not give a rat's ass about politics. And if you look, this is the "Military" area of the forum. If you want to talk politics, maybe you should go to a political area.

Nations are looking for Trump-work-arounds regarding weapons-systems.
Trump flip-flops on something virtually every-other day.
Plus, he will probably demand a pay-to-play transaction such as a Trump meme-coin purchase.

Yup. I see a future war where adversaries launch hundreds of thousands of drones at each other.A drunken monkey know future wars won't be won with tanks, planes, artillery. etc. AI, drones both large and small and satellites will win.
