7 years, and probably out in 2...
Looks like selling a firearm to a known felon can get you 15 and 250k fine.
Give em 25 and make it stick.
I can see the draw though to attempt such things. It's insane, from what I've seen on some programs, what a 200 dollar firearm can fetch once it gets south. Add a zero and maybe a few hundred more.
The men, Esteban Rios Reyes and Alex Santos Lopez, pleaded guilty to the charges.
Oh, come on. Trump has been trying to increase exports of American-made goods. Two men have been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for attempting to traffic a truck full of arms to Mexico from the U.S.
The men, Esteban Rios Reyes and Alex Santos Lopez, pleaded guilty to the charges. They were found guilty of being part of an organization trafficking weapons, according to court testimony seen by Border Report.
The incident that led to their detention took place in September 2023 when Santos sought to drive a truck towing a utility trailer from Texas to Mexico. However, an outbound inspection led to the discovery of hundreds of firearms and magazines, as well as over 1,500 rounds of ammunition.
M'kay...I have a huge problem with this; hundreds of firearms being smuggled....and only 7 years?
C'mon legislators; you want to put a dent in weapons smuggling to Mexico, you have to make it painful for the smugglers instead of letting foreign nations waste our Judicial resources trying to sue legitimate US firearms manufacturers.
Pass some legislation that hits violent firearms offenders as well.... we should never hear about 3- or 4-time weapons felons being set loose on the streets. Stop banning firearms and start banning criminals.
They were caught in an outbound inspection. I never heard of such a thing, but I wonder how they intended to clear the Mexico customs inspection point. Two men have been sentenced to more than seven years in prison for attempting to traffic a truck full of arms to Mexico from the U.S.

That's my guess. I also guess they were informed on.

Happens all the time. Crossing ports go both ways, and the Customs and Border Protection inspects both ways. Especially for firearms headed for Mexico. They were caught in an outbound inspection. In a manner yes.But Mexico has banned guns?
They can't control cartels if anything they're part of the government.Clearly they need a law to ban imports of guns. Common sense.
