Two Americas Index: Some Americans are open to election fraud theories in midterms

Nearly four out of 10 Republicans and one in four Democrats say they'll blame election fraud if their side loses.

Nearly four out of 10 Republicans and one in four Democrats say they'll blame election fraud if their party doesn't win control of Congress in November, in the latest wave of the Axios-Ipsos Two Americas Index.

Why it matters: A month out from the 2022 midterms, 2020's Big Lie is alive and morphing into a broader distrust of institutions and elections that threatens to become entrenched.

By the numbers: Republicans surveyed are significantly more likely than Democrats not only to predict that election fraud will play some role if their party loses, but to feel that suspicion intensely.

The intrigue: The survey found that Americans who'd shared at least one meal in the past month with others from different political affiliations would be more skeptical about jumping to conclusions that election fraud caused a loss.

It's not really Trump that did the damage; it's right wing media like Fox News. They have poisoned the American mind by creating a parallel information universe. I think Fox News and similar companies are guilty of treason, but high profile public figure will ever have the audacity to say that, so the misinformation sphere grows and grows.

Hillary has been denying it and still thinks she won. Stacy Abrams also thinks she won her election, even despite a recent court ruling against her "theory."

Remember all the protests and people "screaming to the sky?"


Anyone else remember the various marches, like the "pink 'P' hat" women's march where speakers denounced the results and some even "thought about" how they would "blow up the white house?"

That is simply untrue. Both Hillary and Stacy felt there were political issues that influenced their loss but neither one of them ever went to the lengths Trump has gone to undermine the election/voting process itself.

Why do you keep peddling this horseshit? Clinton ceded to Trump on election night. She called him and congratulated him on his victory.

Can you even imagine Trump doing something that magnanimous? Of course you can't. Nobody can.

4.8 million people signed a Change.Org petition to put Hillary in as president so while I’m not sure I would go all Democrats there was for sure a sizable chunk not accepting

That's the problem. When they allege the worst possible scenarios regarding Trump, his Presidency, and the elections, it is all "true."

When faced with comparable Democrat actions 2016 and on through current, it's all "people acting properly, nothing to see here." But "Trump is EEEEvil!"

Not downplaying. Factual. She conceded. Her voters, maybe not so much so, but they indeed DIDN'T storm the Capitol. There wasn't half or more of ALL Democrat voters who insisted the election was stolen. I know the facts don't fit your narrative, but there they are. ONLY TRUMP has never conceded, ONLY HIS FOLLOWERS stormed the Capitol, and STILL half or more of Republican voters believe the Big Lie.

Calm down. I never said the two are comparable. I said and it is true a sizable chunk of folks did not accept Hillary loosing as proven by the 4.8 million people who signed the petition to have her installed as
President.

There are unfortunately people who will not accept their candidate lost an election.

Correct. I agreed with them too.

IMO they had more valid and justifiable reasons to do so.

IMO had the foolish rioters not entered Congress that day (pushed on by 5 or 6 openly acting agents provocateurs), then the proper process would have followed. That being one Congressperson and one Senator from each State whose electors were being offered for count having properly "objected," then the Congressional process to award those electoral votes would follow.

THAT was completely within both the Constitution and Congressional rules at that time.
