Trump's war on immigrants is "made for TV"

"As federal agents prepared to fan out in Los Angeles for a controversial immigration crackdown, the officers were greeted by a familiar face: Dr. Phil McGraw. The television personality and his camera crew were embedded with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement when some of the raids took place on Friday. The footage is being incorporated into a special report on “Dr. Phil Primetime,” a program on McGraw’s conservative TV channel Merit TV, a spokesperson confirmed to CNN.

The former daytime talk show host was also embedded with ICE officials in Chicago back in January, when some federal agents were told to be camera-ready for a show of force at the very start of President Trump’s second term.

Trump officials have repeatedly tried to maximize television and online attention around immigration enforcement activities this year. Homan and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem are regulars on Fox News and other Trump-aligned TV networks. They also frequently publicize ICE actions on X and other social media platforms.

Early Monday morning, as Los Angeles police worked to disperse demonstrators, Trump appeared to be watching TV as he posted about a police press conference and reacted to videos of skirmishes in the streets.

“Looking really bad in L.A.,” Trump wrote. “BRING IN THE TROOPS!!!”"

He's targeting those who are following the rules as well.

This isn't intended to catch illegal immigrants who are doing no one any harm and supporting our economy.

Its about wielding power.

And Trump is creating violence for television in order to gain more power.

He is televising and legitimizing dehumanizing violence to desensitize us to his sadistic cruelty.
 
And today, on the Earl and Cletus show:

Earl: "Dr. Phil ridin’ along with ICE, cameras rollin’, like it’s some kinda reality show."
Cletus: "Ain’t that somethin’? Bet it’s gonna be real good TV!"
Earl: "Mmm-hmm. And what’s it showin’?"
Cletus: "Well, them fellers gettin’ rounded up, like they oughta be!"
Earl: "And what they done?"
Cletus: "Ain’t gotta do nothin’, Earl! They ain’t supposed to be here!"
Earl: "So, they all criminals?"
Cletus: "Well…not all, but enough!"
Earl: "And how many you met?"
Cletus: "Ain’t met none, but I seen it on TV!"
Earl leans back, glancing at the TV.
Earl: "Funny thing is, Cletus… back when they ran them wagon trains west, folks didn’t have papers neither. Just showed up, started buildin’. No cameras, no raids—just folks makin’ a life."
Cletus: "Well now, that was different!"
Earl: "Was it?"

An embedded RW TV talk show team doesn't surprise me . It is right in keeping with his reality TV show way of governing. It's all about the show and it works beautifully with the base who confuse entertainment with leadership.

Are you arguing that the TV cameras only roll if the people being detained are undocumented? Does ICE ask for proof of status before deciding whether to make it prime-time entertainment?
 
Crossing the border without permission is usually not a crime. So stop please with the misinformation. Your opinion might be it should be one. But the facts are - usually not.

Asking for asylum and passing the screening allows them to have a lawful presence . There are millions here waiting for the judicial process around their asylum claim to be completed. They *are* following immigration laws. (Yes, there are some here without legal presence. A lot of them are visa overstays.)

Under non-Trump administrations, it was policy to seriously consider the claim and let them wait for the process to work its way through time.

Under Trump, many fewer are passing the initial screening to get the ok to stay.

A great thing to do would be to increase the rate of processing those asylum claims.

It's not the fault of Trump that Demcrats call for CIVIL WAR everytime someone wants to remove their slaves and peasant class.

Each time it has happened they've undermined the Federal Government to keep their disproportionate representation and power.

They could just give up on slavery, racism and insurrection but they can't so each time they start burning down cities we have to take note of it.
 
That's a lot of historical revisionism in one post. Your post makes abolition, women's suffrage, and Civil Rights protests sound like an excuse to burn down cities. Protests for basic rights are not only a part of America, they're what the country was founded on.

You framed historical activism as destructive, and I called that revisionism out. If you'd like to reframe your argument with less rhetoric, it might provide avenues to respond. What were you referring to as the "slaves and peasant class" and the need to give up on "slavery, racism and insurrection" in your post?
