Trump's tariffs will reduce the deficit by $4 trillion, but thats over the 2025-2035 period.
This according to the Congressional Budget Office (CB), which is not thought to be a friend of Republican presidents or Congress.

Yeah, the tariffs are a disaster that is already impacting our economy and driving us to recession. All the cope in the world from maga won't change it. IT's just math.

Never happen.
Any reduction was offset by Trump's tax cuts to the rich and corporations.
Enjoy the exploding debt!
Be sure to blame Democrats when at all possible.

Tax increases tend to do that but trust me, they won't last that long.

Think for a minute. If exporters are charged more money to send their goods to the US, what happens to the price of goods?

Wow. We’re paying $2 trillion a year in new taxes that Congress didn’t vote on?

That sounds like a terrible way to run a country.

There is way to much throw away spending on the cheap crap from the likes of Temu and Shein.

Alas, this tax on the middle class will also shrink the economy and reduce Americans’ purchasing power, per that post.

We estimate that the changes in tariffs, both by the United States and its trading partners, will reduce the size of the U.S. economy. That reduction in output reflects both negative and positive effects: the negative effects of higher tariffs through channels such as reduced investment and productivity, and the positive effects of additional revenues from tariffs on U.S. imports, which would reduce federal borrowing and increase the funds available for private investment.

The increases in tariffs will make consumer goods and capital goods (the physical assets that businesses use to produce goods and services) more expensive, which will reduce the purchasing power of U.S. consumers and businesses. Those increases in costs will put temporary upward pressure on inflation.

Because Americans can’t afford more expensive stuff.

Are you saying you want to reduce consumer spending? You want a contraction in the economy, aka a depression?

Like telling your wife upon your return from a poker trip to Vegas you won $3 grand without telling her the game buy-in was $5 grand.

MAGAS cannot seem to grasp the concept that all the boasting is about using THEIR OWN money to pay down their deficit. Comical stuff when viewed through the lens of irony.

If you want to respond with logical fallacies, you do you. And I'll point them out. 🤷‍♀️

FYI, "cheap crap" is only a small part of this equation. Cars, food, building materials, etc. will also be impacted.

Yep, could have just had a modest tax increase and accomplished the same and more without alienating all of our trade partners.

Geniuses playing checkers by blackjack rules, shrieking "Uno!" at every roll of the dice.

If the cost is too high, quit buying it!

So reduce consumer spending and have a contraction in the economy?

What happens when it’s something you have to buy and the cost is too high?

And what does the CBO project inflation to do as a result of the new import taxes?

Should just tax the rich to pay down the debt.

But that makes so much sense the right will never go for that.

The right has to defend billionaires. It is unclear why, other than they are duped.

You mean the American people will. If Trump doesn’t spend it that is.
