Is that all this is?

Just a personal piggy bank for himself and the Republican Party?

Is this what "free market" conservatives are advocating for?

Excellent video. The question is will the leftists here learn anything from it? Not likely, but we can try. From the video transcript:

A market economy functions best when there are limited constraints placed on it.

Government regulations are constraints. The market functions best when constraints are minimized.

This applies to the entire regulatory state, not just Trump's tariffs. Here's the money quote:

When asked how he would determine these exemptions, Trump replied "instinctively."

Obviously corrupt, but guess what? All regulations are applied "instinctively" In my building code thread I argued:

Building codes represent nothing but the personal preferences of the people who write them, based on subjective values rather than objective principles.

"personal preferences" = "Trump's instincts"

It's literally all corruption, because it's all subjective. The more regulations, the more corruption and graft you will get. That's why there are 15,000 registered lobbyists in DC, and probably 10x as many unregistered lobbyists. Here's the growth of the absolutely despicable regulatory state:

I think that is giving Trump too much credit.

Trump is so stupid that he actually believes his tariffs have merit and that they will somehow benefit the U.S.....and he has believed in tariffs since the 1980s.

The tariffs are a tool. Wake up.

Yet, no one, including Trump have a plan of execution or have been able to explain the reasoning behind them, but yea tariffs are a tool. That tool was used to take good economy and nation for the world to see Trump’s incompetence. Congrats MAGA

Posting again, for shits and giggles

I think that's part of it. He's a con man and tariffs give him a lot of power over industries and companies.

I think there are other reasons as well. He seems to think countries are ripping us off. He's said that for a long time.

He likes having power that doesn't require him to work with others. Democracy is messy and takes work, he doesn't seem to have either the patience or work ethic to get things done through other means.

I think it's multiple things but people groveling to make him lift tariffs is definitely a bonus for him. The guy doesn't care about anyone but himself and sure doesn't care about the country.

Is this just a vehicle to post anti-Trump talking points?
Why don't you explain to us what Trump's plan is and how he takes us from Trade war to bringing jobs back to the US?

How about some insight into how long this is going to take and how bad it's going to get?
How about what these American manufacturing jobs look like and what they pay?

There seems to be some sort of gap between what a lot of Americans see Trump doing and what his supporters are saying he's doing. Maybe you can clear that up for us?

Saul Alinsky Rules for Radicals, - accuse your enemy of what it is you are doing.

If Trump wanted a vehicle for corruption, he'd use USAID. Obama and his meat puppet had a corruption engine perfected.

Get outside the US for a while and then look back in at how US politics works. The level of 'legalised' corruption is just ridiculous. What is even more ridiculous is when we make excuses for it and try to legitimise what we thinks fits with our personal political narrative. We should all (Libs and Cons) be jointly up in arms over corruption no matter what political party it is occurring in. The fact that we aren't is a pointer to how close we are getting to becoming a 'broken state'. One of the fastest ways to become a broken state is to let political corruption get out of control.

Yep.

That's what Citizens United opened the door for.

Wholesale, legalized corruption.

And now everyone pays the price.

Why don't you explain to us what Trump's plan is and how he takes us from Trade war to bringing jobs back to the US?
Increase trade through domestic production.

I thought that was obvious.

How about some insight into how long this is going to take and how bad it's going to get?
It depends on how bad the recession Biden left lssts.

How about what these American manufacturing jobs look like and what they pay?
Like manufacturing jobs.

Is there a question?

There seems to be some sort of gap between what a lot of Americans see Trump doing and what his supporters are saying he's doing. Maybe you can clear that up for us?
I do not see the gap.

Countries, except for China, are lined up trying to improve our trade posture. That's all good for us.

It's the natural setting for good citizens who are capable of independent thought.
It's the natural setting for close-minded haters.

The ranks of Bigots welcome you.

Sorry, am I ****ing solely in charge of US tariffs?
What?

Drones mindlessly bleating the slogans of the party are foot soldiers, cannon fodder. They are in charge of nothing.
