Trump's mismanagement helped fuel coronavirus crisis
Current and former administration officials blame the president for creating a no-bad-news atmosphere that stifled attempts to combat the outbreak.

For six weeks behind the scenes, and now increasingly in public, Trump has undermined his administration’s own efforts to fight the coronavirus outbreak — resisting attempts to plan for worst-case scenarios, overturning a public-health plan upon request from political allies and repeating only the warnings that he chose to hear. Members of Congress have grilled top officials like Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and Centers for Disease Control Director Robert Redfield over the government’s biggest mistake: failing to secure enough testing to head off a coronavirus outbreak in the United States. But many current and former Trump administration officials say the true management failure was Trump’s.

Up until now, Trump had been able to lie, mislead, and blame others for any problems that had arisen over the past 3 years but now, it is all (the total effect of the Corona Virus on the U.S.) in his hands and he is the one that is responsible for what the administration does. I know he has put Pence as the person leading this effort (to be able to blame if things fail) but nothing gets done without Trump's approval and already his handling of the crisis is being seen and THIS TIME, he is not going to be able to explain away or blame anyone else for the end result. This is exactly the one kind of crisis where all the blame or credit is given to the head of the country, the President.

What do I think? I think his incompetence will be exposed in a clear light and unfortunately a lot of people will die that may not have died if someone else had been in charge.

Can this be the way that God exposes to "all" of us the evil and incompetence in Trump? I would not be surprised as God has his ow way to show true evil to the eyes of all.

I don't wish this on anyone but God doesn't listen to me. He does what he believes is right and necessary no matter what or how anyone thinks. That has been proven throughout the ages. Didn't he send his own son to die on a cross to make a point?

Trump isn't quite as bad a manager as he is a person. But it's damn close.

Many? Names please.

Trump keeps saying that anything bad that happens is Obama's fault.

Many? Names please.

I think can help. From the article:

"Interviews with 13 current and former officials, as well as individuals close to the White House, painted a picture of a president who rewards those underlings who tell him what he wants to hear while shunning those who deliver bad news. "

Reporters do not name their sources, especially insiders and leaks. That could be a handy excuse for trump supporters to pretend that anonymity equals 'fake news' but I choose not to believe the man that gets on Twitter and TV and lies a dozen times a day. I also trust most reporters and their integrity, even when they give me news that does not conform to my worldview. That's common sense.

On plenty of other issues we do have the names of current or former officials who have come out and said Trump has no idea what he is doing. My favorites:

Jim Mattis: "a fifth or sixth grader"
John Kelly: "an idiot; unhinged"
Rex tillerson: "a f***ing moron"
Gary Cohn: "dumb as $hit"
HR McMaster: "a dope" and a "kindergartner"
Steve Bannon: "an 11-year old child"

Now when these intelligent, patriotic and vastly more experienced people (whether we agree with their politics or not; at the time they all agreed with his) have said this are we really going to assume just because a reporter doesn't name their sources this week, that others still in Trump's orbit aren't really saying the same things about him. People gripe about their bosses, but this guy gets more than most because he really does come across as dumb.

You conveniently left out the part of Friday's CDC presser where Trump "ultimately empowered Pence to decide whether to evacuate the passengers"?

And guess what? The passengers are being unloaded at the port of Oakland and transferred to an evacuee center in San Diego today.

You just can't gripe about Trump enough, can you?

Stands to reason. They wouldn't hold any trump supporters or their families on a death ship.

He's gonna need every vote he can get.

Mr. Trump has, indeed,

  • called Jim Mattis: "a fifth or sixth grader";
  • called ;John Kelly: "an idiot; unhinged";
  • called Rex tillerson: "a f***ing moron";
  • called Gary Cohn: "dumb as $hit";
  • called HR McMaster: "a dope" and a "kindergartner";
  • called Steve Bannon: "an 11-year old child"

but you also have to acknowledge that Mr. Trump, by his own admission, "hires only the best".

Those are the things they called him.

You call that being competent?

For every one tiny thing he has done right I cans how you give he has done wrong with this crisis.

By the way, you can’t stop making excuses for him, can you?

You call that being competent?

Yes, I do. Unless one is JC, Almighty, they are incapable of living up to your standards.

But that's not what we're refuting in this particular exchange, now is it? Btw, the U.S. is doing just fine in their response.

By the way, you can’t stop making excuses for him, can you?

Your authoritarianism aside, free country. Btw, I don't make excuses for anyone. However, when I see Trump bashing for something he hasn't done while you continue to scapegoat and blame him for the coronavirus response, I'll continue to call :bs.

If you think that you can do a better job than Pence and the rest of the team, by all means, run for president, get your own veep, or at least find somebody who is able to beat them at the polls.
Yeah, good luck with the latter. :mrgreen:

The article says "many". I didn't say it. As such, you need to ask Politico the question, not me.

This it the typical reporting from the left, many, a source, Trump insiders, someone close to the Trump administration. FAKE NEWS. Stop spreading s*** that is not verified. The country doesn't need a panic created for political benefit.

Here's the kind of things happening that the News is not adequately covering. Trump wants to keep a tight lid on the border for many reasons.
DHS links coronavirus to border; 328 Chinese illegals caught so far this year - Washington Times

"Homeland Security data", "Border Patrol agents", "a Homeland Security official", "Homeland Security officials" - nope, not sufficient cites to any identifiable person there and "President Trump ...(said) ...he didn’t see the border as much of a vulnerability." which sort of blows your whole position out of the water, doesn't it?

Trump is afraid that a reporter will try to purposefully contract the coronavirus and give it to him on Airforce One. Trump is cuckoo for coacoapuffs.

Sorry but I don't believe it. The onus is on YOU if you want to just spout nonsense and quoting unnamed sources. If you don't know it means nothing to me because the sources could be daddy duck and mickey mouse.

We had between 7,000 and 13,000 H1N1 deaths according to the CDC between April and November, 2009. We've had 22 coronavirus deaths over a month and a half. That would be about 325 or so deaths in 7 months. So, if Trump is mismanaging coronavirus, how horribly did Obama mismanage H1N1 if his death rate was over 21 times higher than the current one at a minimum? This one fact points out the total hypocrisy of the left and shows that the claims made about Trump are 100% political and nothing else.

Oh, and somewhere around 30,000 die yearly from the common flu. But, hey, let's run around throwing our hands in the air claiming the world is ending. Makes perfect sense.:roll:

I blame the fear mongering media and their echo chamber for most of this panic.
And of course there is the incessant partisan parroting of slimy politicians like Nancy Pelosi. who keeps tossing the daggers at the POTUS and his team, hoping nothing more than to advance their agenda to winning back the WH.
