Donald Trump'''s Lead Slashed in South Carolina: Poll - NBC News

Donald Trump is now leading Saturday's South Carolina Republican primary by 5 points — down from his 16-point lead in the state a month ago, according to results from a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll.

Trump gets support from 28 percent of likely Republican primary voters in the state, while Ted Cruz gets 23 percent. They're followed by Marco Rubio at 15 percent, Jeb Bush at 13 percent, and John Kasich and Ben Carson at 9 percent each.

It should be noted; however, that in all other recent polling for South Carolina, Trump maintains a strong double digit lead and the RCP average puts the Trump lead at +14.8. South Carolina Republican Primary

With that said, is this poll indicative of a trend that just hasn't appeared in the other polls? Could this be a partial result of the exaggerated attacks against Cruz (repeatedly calling him a liar) and George W. Bush (referring to him and his decision to invade Iraq as one of the worst ever by a President)?

I still believe that Trump wins South Carolina by about 10 points - smaller than the RCP average, but larger than this NBC poll.

For those curious, Hillary maintains a very strong 28 point lead over Bernie according to this poll and an RCP average of +24.1.

I don't find this surprising as South Carolina is very much like Iowa. I wouldn't be surprised if Cruz wins S.C. It's not a good state for Trump.

Well, when they say "That's enough to piss off the Pope" you're not supposed to go for it anyway just to fee if they're messing with you.

It could conceivably be true, but the NBC polls have had the appearance of outliers very recently.
They do have quite different results than the others have.
