President Trump is expected to declare a national emergency on Friday afternoon, a move that would give him authority to use $40 billion allocated by Congress for disaster relief to address the coronavirus crisis.

Mr. Trump, according to a senior administration official, is expected to invoke the Stafford Act, a law that empowers the Federal Emergency Management Agency to coordinate disaster response and aid state and local governments.

I applaud this declaration. A step in the right direction. For all the fumblings since this virus started, we are seeing good steps in the last few days. The news about testing, this news, even Trumps speech that so many hated (I was glad it showed him changing his tune about the virus) is all putting us in a much better position than we were 5 days ago.

Keep in mind, this post is not about politics, this is about virus response.

I agree it's finally the right direction, but he is still dragging his heals and is behind the curve. Earlier failures were crucial. Because of them, he has to shut down the country now and anything short of that will not be sufficient...

I feel like that may be the direction either way but we will never know. I do know this, we can't change the past. We can deal with the fumblings after. Hopefully when this is over we'll learn from it. But right now, today, tomorrow and next week do matter and can be impacted. My opinion is we focus on where we are and where we are going for the time being and then deal with the rest when we are in a better position to focus on that.

Hopefully, we'll deal with it in November... decisively... but something tells me people will forget get brainwashed by then as Trump will claim he "beat" the virus. (This assumes we'll pass the peak by then)

If we haven't passed the peak by November we are in serious trouble.

That said, people won't forget. You think Biden won't stir this pot from now till election day? But again, that is later. We need to focus on saving lives and dealing with this crisis. Blame and elections will be plentiful after. Trump is starting to do rational things now.

For twump, however, it IS all about politics and maintaining political power.

That may be, however, even if it is, his desire to stay in power is causing him to do things today that are benefiting us. Don't care why he does them, we can deal with that after. I do care that he does them.

I wonder if he'll be hyperventilating about a 'hoax' when he's on the air.

After the war is "won" it's hard to argue about a battle...
Biden: 'Remember when he unnecessarily killed and hospitalized all those people?'
Trump: 'Everything was done beautifly and look we've been improving every day now for the last 4 months'

As for saving lives - keep kids home, cancel parties and events, spread the word, isolate anyone who might be exposed for at least 2 weeks (not just until they feel better), and handcuff all elderly in your lives to their bed and do their shopping.

No, it won't. Get your information from sources other than right wing blogs. Show me even one headline that matches that from the MSM in response to his declaration of a national emergency. but you are simply fanning flames of political partisan bull**** with this garbage post.

What blogs?!? These are my personal "ideas" based on MSM headlines in the past, such as Trump bans Muslims, Trump's immigration policy is caging indigenous children. This is the America Native people know, Trump Gives White Supremacists (Charlottesville) an Unequivocal Boost ...

Dow Jones at yesterday's session, fell by 9.99%, to the level of 21200.
The maximum was exactly a month ago, on February 12 - 29551. The drop from the maximum is 28%.
4 years of Trump's "economic success" rolled back in 3 days...
