Trump, Who Wants To Execute Drug Dealers, Promises To Free Ross Ulbricht

Yeah, they get more than a taste in this state. The grower is taxed 7% of their gross receipts. You know that is added into the eventual retail price. (Weed runs about $14.00 a gram before retail level taxes.) Then there is 10% for products with adjusted THC of less than 35%. 25% for products over 35%. 20% for cannabis infused products. 6.5% state sales tax. And any local taxes that municipalities feel like adding.

I've read that Illinois retail prices are the highest in the nation.

Wow... yeah... they're definitely gouging the shit out of it.

You can get mixed strain flower of great quality, sitting between 25-28%, for around 80 bucks and ounce. That's $58USD. You can pay a lot more for the AAA stuff, but this stuff is pretty damn good.

And that's if you go to the government authorized dispensaries. You can go to the Native reservations and buy $50 ounces ($36USD) that are better than anything I smoked back in the day. It's considered a grey market, I guess. You can buy mushrooms there too...hehe... That will be the next thing we see legalized in this country, I'm sure.

But yeah, that's a mess... I'm sure the black market retailers love it though.

The thing is, the dispensaries are doing pretty damn good. A lot of people want to recreate with weed, but don't want to enter into the black market.

Not only that, we have our own gray market. The Farm Bill 2018 allowed hemp to be sold, as long as it contained minimal THC9. .3% or less I think. So now we have little dispensary type stores popping up here and there selling hemp with low THC9 content...but pretty high THCA content. Guess what THCA turns into when heated? You know...like if you were to smoke it or something. That's right. THCA turns into THC9 when heated. Hemp and marijuana are the same plant, so this isn't surprising.

The state came this close to shutting down those operations in the legislative session that just ended- along with the gas station sales of THC8 infused products and such. They didn't get it done though.

Yes...such a wonderful state. Think the MJ situation sounds bad? I'm in the market for another boat. It will cost 6.25% boat use tax in order to register it here. New...used...no matter. Pay up 6.25% of the purchase price, or fair market value. Whichever is greater. They don't even consider a trade in for a boat that you previously paid the tax for when purchased. In other words, trade in a $20,000 boat on a $40,000 boat, and you don't pay based on the difference. It works that way for cars, but not for boats. You pay the tax on the entire $40,000.

This is true even if making a trade between private parties. For instance, suppose I found someone who wanted to trade my Harley with an approximate retail value of 30,000, for his boat with a retail value of 30,000. Trade even up. I have to send the state $1875 tax to register my new-to-me boat. Meanwhile, he has to send 25 bucks (flat rate for motorcycles) to register his new-to-him Harley. Used car transactions between private parties are also taxed, but not as drastically as boats...and motorcycles get a great break on taxes as shown above.
