Three red states to deploy National Guard troops to DC under Trump order

Critics accused Trump of purposefully bringing in red-state troops to a Democratic-led city who may be less reluctant to use force against its residents

The Trump administration will deploy hundreds of National Guard members from Republican-led states West Virginia, Ohio and South Carolina across Washington, D.C. The deployment comes as a further escalation of the president's baseless claims that the city is in desperate need of a federal crackdown on crime and homelessness.

The move, announced on Saturday, is the latest step in President Donald Trump's campaign to flood the nation's capital with federal law enforcement to combat "out of control" violent crime, a claim that defies evidence. Federal data from January found that violent crime in the area for 2024 was at a 30-year low, and down 35% from 2023.

The three red state NG troops being deployed to DC are among the Kent State minded NG: Ohio, West Virginia and South Carolina.

The matter of arming the NG in DC becomes critical with such hillbilly types soon to arrive.

The DeptArmy still has not issued an expected order about the distribution of firearms among the NG troops in DC and for those NG en route to DC from the three redneck states. WH said Friday night the Army would issue its order on a distribution of firearms on Saturday but no order was issued on the day, yesterday. Nothing so far today has been issued either.

The Army and Trump are at odds about the NG having firearms at their assigned duty stations, very few of which are in Southeast DC. While the Army says there are firearms under lock and key at each scene of the NG deployments, Trump-Miller want the troops armed to the teeth.

In any event, the Rules on the Use of Force in domestic deployments RUOF for all NG deployed are those of the DC NG and are the standardized Army RUOF domestically. Rules of Engagement ROE do not exist in domestic deployments of the armed forces because ROE apply against an armed enemy force.
 
Virtually all NG deployed are at monuments and government buildings in the city center while few NG troops are exposed in Southeast DC where the rate of crime is above the city average. Other NG troops are deployed to the Georgetown section which is well policed and where sophisticated home security systems are the rule as it were. Indeed, Trump's armed NG are strictly a dog and pony show by which the Generalissimo makes himself feel good.
