Trump says he's going to reopen Alcatraz prison. Doing so would be difficult and costly

President Donald Trump says he's directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a California island that's been closed for more than 60 years.

He knows we have the supermax prison at ADX-Florence, Colorado, right?

And before that USP-Marion, Illinois (which was downgraded to medium security).

Hell, even Terre Haute wouldn’t make more sense.

And he knows Alcatraz closed in the early 1960s.

And expand it where? It’s a friggin island.

Besides the facts it will cost a fortune to update this 60-year-old building located on an island, here's another question:

Why the need for another Federal prison? Whom is trump planning on imprisoning there?

Alcatraz is a national historic landmark. Lots of people go there for tours. The only reason to have a prison in this one specific location instead of any random rural community in America, is because Trump is just bullshitting as usual and knows that the word Alcatraz already paints a picture in people's minds. It's the same reason he sent some immigrants to Gitmo for a few days before quietly returning them home.

Maybe Bukele doesn't want to take any more people who are shipped off by the US to prison without due process.
 
Alcatraz was closed because it was too damn expensive to keep open. It's facilities are completely outdated and inadequate. All potable water has to be shipped in. All food and other supplies must also be shipped. This is right up there with some of Trump's dumbest ideas.

Trump is a lame duck President. Consequently, he doesn't care what people think of him.

So, he makes incredibly stupid remarks, hoping the media will concentrate on his foolish statements and not the fact that he personally is causing a recession and weakening our government with his policies. In addition, he is slashing needed services.

So, in interviews with the press he talks about using force to annex Greenland, Canada becoming our 51st state, 200 trade deals, and bringing peace to Ukraine and Gaza. All of which is pure B.S.

Courtesy of the media, Trump is able to share his fantasies. For weeks he has been talking about numerous trade deals.There aren't any, none made public, anyway. The White House can't even name countries involved in Trump's deals.

The latest is, he doesn't know the relationship between the President and the Constitution ... or so he says.

The Post reports, "President Donald Trump, asked during an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” whether he believes that he needs to uphold the Constitution during his presidency, responded, “I don’t know.”

Obligingly, the media fell for it. The media is all over the stupid remark just as Trump intended.

When the media is spending time on Trump's abundant insipid remarks, they are not devoting their time on the damage Trump is doing to our country.

The media is doing exactly what Trump wants them to do.

The media should should spend far less time on what Trump says, and far more time on what he does.
