Seems you, as well as most of the left, like playing little word games, and think you have a point you can make with them.
 
Trump might succeed in becoming a total dictator, but the lifespan of a dictator is generally around 10 years before there's a revolt and they're physically removed. I'm sure most remember the fate of Muammar Gaddafi.
 


Why confront these people? Stand down and move out. The people of LA have the environment they want. Let them enjoy it and let LA police handle it.

They will obey their chain of command. It's as simple as that. This idea that soldiers will refuse orders because they'll have some Eureka moment that what they're doing is somehow unconstitutional is a fantasy.

Over the years, I've heard/read some, including retired and active duty military, say things like they won't follow unconstitutional or illegal orders, but I think that's being naive to how people behave in the context of institutions and their power dynamics. Humans are social creatures. We're group conformists by nature, and since we moved out of the prairies and forests and into cities over these last 10,000 or so years, we've adapted in ways that incline us to operate within the power frameworks that form the basis of civilization.

In short, we're engineered to obey authority. I mean, sure, there are limits. It was soldiers who risked court martial to speak out against the massacres of Mai Lai and there were similar episodes in more recent conflicts, but generally speaking, we're creatures that do what the group does, and we give authority a lot of slack in many cases until we know that something is just way out of bounds.

Trump will say that he wants those protesters neutralized so that ICE can do its job. The Guard will impose a curfew if that doesn't happen. Hopefully, it doesn't go much beyond that, but it could.

Los Angeles has thousands of immigrant day-workers that keep the state of California one of the largest economies in the country, and in some cases in the world. My son had a landscaping business in L.A. and when he had a big contract, he went right to Home Depot to quickly hire immigrants waiting for a day job. This is where the protests began after seven or more immigrants at Home Depot were taken by ICE. Does anyone know if these men had committed any crime before they were kidnapped? Did they all receive a hearing in front of a judge before they were snatched? These immigrants are paying taxes, and they are not eligible for social benefits such as healthcare, Medicaid or food stamps and if anyone tells you they are, they're a liar. They are more law-abiding than many citizens because they don't want to lose their jobs, their homes and their families by committing any crimes and being deported.

But presumably that chain starts with one man, the Commanding General of the Marine Corps. Is it possible he would refuse to order the Marines to deploy on American soil to operate against American citizens?

He could invoke the Insurrection Act. I've predicted he would do this at some point, and this might be the time he pulls the trigger.

There would be immediate disagreement and pushback about the constitutionality of the declaration, but the courts would have to sort that out, and the laws are vague when it comes to the criteria for declaring such an emergency.
 
He does like the drama of the words National Emergency.

I would suspect that those 7 do not represent 100% of the laborers who were at Home Depot that day.
So, we can be reasonably be assured that those 7 were not in the country lawfully.

I think that's complicated and not clearly defined. Here is a pretty good AP description of some of the complicated and potentially overlapping authorities.

Let's say that Newsom chooses to try to say absolutely not. That's certainly risky for Newsom if these riots continue and get worse. And, if that were to happen, that's going to really reflect on the entire Dem party. A repeat of the long lasting summer of love could be brutal for Dems on an issue (deportations) where Trump has pretty strong support. Newsom clearly wants to run for president. If he stands for supporting illegals (including dangerous criminals) being protected by rioters hurting ICE agents and destroying property - that's a bold move on Newsom's part. We'll see how this goes.
