Trump's Support With GOP Voters Soars to 39 Percent in New Poll - Yahoo News

In a new CNN/ORC national poll released Wednesday morning, GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump boasts a double-digit lead over his closest competitor, picking up 39 percent support from GOP voters.

Sen. Ted Cruz trails in second place with 18 percent, while Ben Carson and Sen. Marco Rubio are tied for third with 10 percent.

I know...I know.....the usual suspects will say "polls this early don't mean anything"....but the reality is that at some point they are going to have to recognize that Trump is not going away anytime soon. His lead over Second Place "Mr. Green Eggs and Ham" is more than double.

The more whoppers this blowhard demagogue tells, the more popular he becomes with his base.
And the Republicans really think he's a conservative and will actually help the party? Holy crap! How deluded can they get?

I just find it fascinating because for months we've heard from the GOP that Trump is just a flash in the pan, he will implode, his numbers are weak, he's going to drop, the GOP electorate is going to wake up, its too early to mean anything, polls this early on are not predictive, past people who led in polls flopped during the primaries....etc...etc....etc....

What they are failing to address is that Trump has not only led from the start but has had HUGE leads. We keep being told that his support has topped out...and then it grows again. At some point, these folk are going to have to admit how clearly wrong they were and will say that (even though all the data/signs are there) they could not have seen this coming.

I never know who these 'they' are. The GOP is party members. Most support Trump and Cruz. There is no secret cabal that gets together...no more than the Dems got together and stopped Obama in 2008.

If people mean some old relics then they wield little influence. Their boy, Bush, wouldn't be irrelevant.

Beats me how anyone in the last month was going to stop Trump from getting the nomination. Trump may have stumbled on his own but there is no hidden magical force working against him. Not sure how anyone can command my pencil not to mark an 'X' where I want to mark it in our primary. Magic pencils? For all of our complaints, the nomination system is quite democratic and comes down to one party member and one vote in a state. McCain has exactly the same ultimate influence as I do...1 vote. Nobody can buy my vote or steal it.

It is now Trump's race to lose, it is looking more and more like Trump vs. Clinton in the general election.

More like 3rd party will be created taking votes away from Trump so Hillary will get in.

It's like a Democratic strawman of GOP numbskullery came to life and started dominating the GOP primary. Maybe they are exactly what the caricatures suggested all along.

The GOP party establishment has made no secret of their desire to stop Trump.

Interesting times. GOP trying to stop Trump, and the DNC trying to stop Sanders.

I think both for the same reason. I think both of the party establishments realize that either would be disaster for them in the General Election. However, I think its a much bigger problem for the GOP since Trump is not only leading but slaughtering the competition. The same cannot be said for Sanders at this point.

The DNC and the media has been a bit more effective in protecting their chosen candidate, so Sanders does indeed have a higher hill to climb. Trump has certainly thrown the establishment/media for a loop in that they aren't able to manipulate the people to the same level as they have become accustomed.

The GOP does have a greater problem in that regard. However, I suppose what the GOP is learning is that they can't expect their party members to be the pushovers the DNC counts on their followers to be.

I agree that there is a certain amount of manipulation on both sides....however, I think one thing that you are improperly discounting is that Hilary's lead is based largely on DNC manipulation. While I think that is part of it, Hilary was always a party favorite without the help of the establishment.

Perhaps. But I'm thinking more like anointed one, rather than just party favorite. My guess, and it's a pure guess, is that nobody really wanted to step in the way of Hilary and the DNC's plans.

Which places Hillary as the establishment candidate. There's a bit of high humor to that.

That's probably true. Its an interesting turn of events. Historically....at least the last several elections, it was really the GOP that adhered to the "Next in Line" mantra for picking candidates...going back to GHWB and then Bob Dole, GWB, McCain, Romney....all...pretty much the next-in-line candidate. Definitely I think we are seeing that this year with Hilary, I think especially because early on in 2008 she was the strong favorite..only to lost to Obama. I think there are definitely a large number of Democrats that feel that she deserves to be the nominee, simply because she lost a close race to Obama and deserves to be next in line.

I don't understand the humor in that. The Clinton's have ALWAYS been the establishment candidates.

Have we had a woman for president yet? Now that we have one who is the presumptive candidate, amazingly she's also the establishment candidate.

On this forum alone I've seen the shift of the conservatives toward Trump, however much they were disparaging him earlier. They will be voting for him with the same enthusiasm that I'll be voting for Clinton, but they will vote for him.

Precisely what I've been telling them all along.

The worst part of it is the infinity number of times I'm going to have to read the words "I'll pull the handle holding my nose." I ****ing hate that phrase. If you vote for someone "holding your nose," kill yourself.

And the Republicans really think he's a conservative and will actually help the party? Holy crap! How deluded can they get?

And that's what troubles me - he's repeatedly telling what are obviously lies, he's publicly making crass insults against women (and even disabled) that are unworthy of anyone in public office (much less the presidency), and he's vilifying entire demographic sections of the American population (Mexicans and Muslims)...

...and yet he becomes even more popular.

That is troubling indeed. It's almost as if we're watching an enactment of that old prediction that "when fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in an American flag and carrying a cross".

Not this gal. I'll skip the Presidential vote if Trump is on the ticket. I cannot and will not vote for that chump.

It's insanity that he has any popularity anywhere.

I'm still not following you. I don't know why that's "amazing"?

Maybe you will, maybe you won't, but conservatives in general are very much lining up behind him. The writing is on the wall and at this point, I really can't think of anything that will make his base abandon him now. After everything he's said, shooting babies out of a catapult on live television would only raise his poll numbers.

i'm somewhat surprised that Trump and Cruz are the frontrunners this close to Iowa, or that Trump ever had a viable campaign to begin with. there has to be someone in the Republican party elite who knows that Trump can't win in the general. i'll bet there's a lot of Machiavellian **** going on behind the scenes to push one of the not crazy candidates forward.
