Trump sets up Monday call with Putin

“I WILL BE SPEAKING, BY TELEPHONE, TO PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN OF RUSSIA ON MONDAY, AT 10:00 A.M.” he wrote on Truth Social. “THE SUBJECTS OF THE CALL WILL BE, STOPPING THE “BLOODBATH” THAT IS KILLING, ON AVERAGE, MORE THAN 5000 RUSSIAN AND UKRAINIAN SOLDIERS A WEEK, AND TRADE.”


Trump added that he will also speak with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and NATO members about the over three-year long war, as the U.S. seeks to broker a peace deal in Eastern Europe.

“HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A PRODUCTIVE DAY, A CEASEFIRE WILL TAKE PLACE, AND THIS VERY VIOLENT WAR, A WAR THAT SHOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED, WILL END,” the president continued.

The planned call comes after Trump told reporters on Friday that he would meet with Putin “as soon as we can set it up.”

Rubio spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday, welcoming a prisoner exchange agreement that was reached in Turkey, and reiterating that the Trump administration “is committed to achieving a lasting end to the Russia-Ukraine war.”
 
I would have expected an actual reaction out of Trump for being publicly owned and humiliated by Putin.

But I guess not. His love for Big Daddy Putin is too strong.
 
Lots of places have Monday meetings during which management tells you what to do this week.

At whatever time Putin decides he's kept Trump waiting long enough and picks up the phone, Trump will once again agree to do everything Putin tells him.
 
The phone call is only six months late!

I'm not concerned. If someone is stupid enough to tempt the Trump Administration, they deserve whatever they get.
 
It is common for a foreign asset, Trump, to check in with his handler, Putin, from time to time.

I have a feeling Trump is getting buffeted from all sides: Zelensky, UK, France, Germany, Lindsey Graham Republicans, Democrats; and counter buffeting from MAGA Republicans led by Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Reaching directly to Putin has some risks. Does Trump intend to force a yes or no answer from Putin on a ceasefire? I imagine Putin will have a basket of scenarios for Trump, of each of which he may want answers from Trump. Trump, I imagine, will easily have answers for what the US will do for scenarios that US is involved in. But what if Putin raises scenarios that have to do with the French, British and Germans? Can Trump answer for them?

But more to Trump; has Trump decided whether he wants to prosecute the war or not? All one can surmise at present is that Trump is reouctant to; but can circumstances force him back to it?
 
God. The gullibility of Trump's fanboys is just unbelievable.

We're not talking about high school kids. We're talking about grown men and women.

The Biden administration used the DoJ for political purposes against potential threats. Otherwise, the law wasn't very important to them. However, when one has already had two assassination attempts, one tends to be a bit more interested.

Trump cant answer for Europe but he can make it clear if Europe wants to keep sending war material, it's their decision/costs.
Really all Trump can do is withhold new funding . but im not 100% confident he will
We have to see what a Trump/Putin meeting can produce -what Putin is willing to cease and Trump to accept as progress towards negotiations

Putin has to satisfy Trump to what Trump accepts as a plan/deal If not Putin gets no Russian reset, and any hope of sanctions relief is dead.

Exactly. Congress could pass aid as part of a package, and Trump would have to sign it. But with the spending crunch in the House by Republicans toward the 'big beautiful bill' stand alone Ukr aid wont happen
