“The Continental Army… manned the air, it rammed the ramparts, it took over airports, it did everything it had to do,” the president said
Trump wanted to have this parade so bad, he should have gotten his speech right, but nope. This is not taken out of context. He was NOT tired. He said it and worst of all people just nodded along.
Trump Says Troops ‘Took Over Airports’ During Revolutionary War, in Rainy Fourth of July Speech
And Obama claimed his campaign had visited 57 states with one to go. And Biden couldn't remember which state he was in when he was speaking in Roanoke.
These misspeakes are all big nothing burgers. With politicians speaking dozens of times a month and often reading from a teleprompter, it amazes me they get it right as often as they do.

There is absolutely nothing, NOTHING, a Trumpeter will not defend on behalf of "their god." He f*ed up. Admit it, move on. He is incapable of writing a speech, so he relies on third-rate talent to do it for him, and will always blame someone else when "mistakes are made." Show me two examples where he admitted an error. I won't wait.
Yesterday he got history confused - misread "ramparts" as "airports" - a minor gaffe, but then he compounds it by not admitting it. (The day before it was praising "new" Sherman tanks.) A normal person would laugh things like this off, but his ego is too fragile, so he has to blame others. It is pathetic and embarrassing but far, far too repetitious. Yet, jump right in and defend it. It's what you presumably get paid for.
I can understand this. He doesn't read much.Trump ran against using teleprompters. Maybe for this reason. :lamo
This is classic symptoms for someone with dementia. Even if the teleprompter was wrong he should know that there weren't airports during the Revolutionary War. Trump also was confusing the Revolutionary War with the War of 1812, when he spoke of Ft. McHenry (he called it “McHendry”). It’s believed that there were no airports at Ft. McHenry either.

That's exactly what the poster you're responding to was doing. They admitted the mistake, noted that it's nothing new, and complemented all of our politicians for making relatively few gaffes.
We fight over such inane issues.
This isn't an example of that. It's a gaffe. It doesn't matter.I agree that these issues are intrinsically inane, but... The repetitiveness and defensive posture expose an underlying pathology that is worrisome. As I noted, this was a minor (if amusing) gaffe. It is the response to the error that is telling, both by Trump and his defenders. Lord knows when Obama was in office I had my share of criticisms, but he didn't embarrass the country with erratic behavior and irrational defensiveness. Surely this has to be concerning to you?

Because I don't know of an example of anyone who speaks publicly and has never made a gaffe.I take that as a" no". You're not concerned about erratic behavior and irrationality? How is this not an example of the pattern?
Obama was referring to places that vote, all the states, DC, Guam, etc. He used "states" as a shortcut for all the places that vote. Characteristically, Republicans jumped on him just like they called him unpresidential for wearing a tan suit. Then they support a guy who demeans the office. Go figure.
