Trump says he can fire the mayor of DC if he wants. Libertarians, you're up.

The 702,000+ people that live there have right local self rule.
DC has been the district of Columbia since the founding. And I'm sorry to break this to you but in DC the federal government is local rule.
Congress is right to have delegated their power to the people of the district.
Disagree they've made a total disaster out of it.
We may not like how they choose to rule themselves, but then most of us on this board do not live there and don't and shouldn't have a say.
It's our Capital we should definitely have a say. Have these people want a city government move to a City
I do support retroceding the populated portion of the district to Maryland, but until that happens, district residents should have a voice in their local affairs. I would note that Maryland offers strong home rule powers to its municipalities and counties, so residents of Washington would be able to retain their form of government.
I don't know why there's residential areas here at all that makes no sense.

And you complain about people calling republicans, especially Donald, fascist.
Yeah because people who say that are just saying that because things don't go their way.

Hard to 1973 was the United States just fascist?
It seems your approving of Donald becoming a fascist dictator. We're already halfway there.
K.

Dude, your favorite politician
Who?

doesn't and give a **** about the law. Politically or personally.

Have you not yet at least figured that out????
You made the thread. You should be able to remember what you titled it. I don't know what my imaginary "favorite politician" would have to do with it.

Is Trump 'too old' to be president? New poll shows major shift - masslive.com

Yeah I get that all the time as well and I'm a libertarian. Any right thinking for real libertarian wouldn't want someone like Trump anywhere near the Oval Office and would consider him both a criminal and threat to the nation.
DP Trumpers make that mistake all of the time. I think that it's simply a "conditioned" response.

The following map is from a proposal for DC statehood, but also happens to work for DC retrocession to Maryland.

Notice that even in 2025, the area of the District actually in use by the Federal Government is miniscule. Thus it makes sense for DC's workforce to live in the District.

So just shrink the District to what is show in the map and give the rest back to Maryland.

The name of the federal district would be changed to the District of Washington, while the portion to be retroceded to Maryland would be the combined County of Columbia and City of Douglass.

I think it would require changing the constitution.

I think it would require changing the constitution.

Retrocession would not require changing the Constitution, as long as the minimal rump Federal area is preserved.

The Virginia portion was retroceded in 1846, so clearly Constitutional to retrocede.

Well, maybe just making it smaller is OK. I have not reread it, but as I think about it, I think you are right. If I recall correctly is says DC for the government operations is not to exceed 10 miles square. So it is OK for it to become smaller.
