Trump says Coca-Cola agrees to use pure cane sugar in US drinks

Sugar is sugar no matter what the source is.
Not according to the way our bodies break them down.
Companies have been moving away from hfcs for decades do to the bad rap they were getting 20-30 yrs ago.

Metabolic Differences

While the sweeteners themselves are not very different, the individual sugars they contain behave differently in your body Glucose raises blood sugar, stimulates the release of insulin and is metabolized in cells throughout your body. Fructose doesn't directly boost blood sugar because it's only metabolized in your liver, where it's converted into fat. As a result, it can boost your blood lipid levels -- consuming more than 100 grams of fructose daily may increase the levels of triglyceride in your bloodstream, according to an article in the April 2011 issue of "Circulation." Since cane sugar and high-fructose corn syrup have about the same proportion of glucose and fructose, the American Heart Association does not acknowledge one as more damaging to your health than the other.

Yes, I know. I tried to explain it. I was responding to a poster that said people will drink less soda now because the costs are going to be higher with cane sugar vs hfcs.

Oh well.

Weird. If the difference in price is negligible, why did they switch to HFCS in the first place?

That said, the idea here is that sugar prices are currently spiking because the Dept. of Ag is restricting imported specialty sugars.

And even before that, it was going to be more epensive.

They are not the same level of unhealthy. The body breaks each down differently.

Sugar is sugar.

Doesn’t matter where it comes from.

Fructose is fructose… glucose is glucose.

It is a chemical compound. The origin doesn’t matter.

Even though water vs sugar is about 99:1. 450 grams vs 39 grams.
It will have a bigger than 1% increase on product costs, per invesopedia.
Investopedia calculated that a shift from HFCS to other sweeteners could lead to a 10-15 per cent hike in the cost of certain products, especially beverages.

Glucose and fructose breaks down in the body in different ways.

One is mostly water soluble and one is fat soluble.
But, as I found out, cane sugar is 50/50 between the 2. HFCS is 55/45 leaning in the fructose side. So, slight differences between the 2 in sugar compounds.

Hmmmm.

Why didn't he tell them to lower the prices too?

TrumpFuel™ also SKYROCKETING in my area, I just paid over $50 to fill up my car THANKS DONNIE smh.

It wouldn't make much difference to the heart, there is a metabolic difference given that HFCS is broken down more in the liver than sucrose.

Saw this earlier and thought, "interesting, but is it really worth a thread?"

I don't drink soft drinks very often, and then it's usually diet (everyone knows Trump likes Diet Coke so why does he care about cane sugar??), so I don't really have an opinion on this news.

Until I saw this:

The result?

Sugar Prices Higher as USDA Curbs Specialty Sugar Imports

So let me get this straight...Trump "convinces" Coca-Cola to use sugar but now it costs more because of what the Trump admin has done?

It's like they actually want higher prices.
Nothing Trump does makes sense. Most of our sugar is imported. The fact is, though, that sugar is far healthier than high fructose corn syrup, and drinks made with real cane sugar do taste better. Of course, neither of those are as bad for you as any artificially sweetened beverage.

Probably due to state gas taxes.

I haven’t had a cola of any stripe for twenty years.
Probably not twenty years, but many, many years for me. I use to love Pepsi, but my tastes/diet has changed...

Coca-cola concentrate is considered a hazardous material for shipping.... I don't know about others, but if its on a HazMat list, it does not get into my refrigerator nor my stomach.

Donald must have bet heavily on Sugar Commodities Futures.
