Saw this earlier and thought, "interesting, but is it really worth a thread?"

I don't drink soft drinks very often, and then it's usually diet (everyone knows Trump likes Diet Coke so why does he care about cane sugar??), so I don't really have an opinion on this news.

Until I saw this:

The result?

Sugar Prices Higher as USDA Curbs Specialty Sugar Imports

So let me get this straight...Trump "convinces" Coca-Cola to use sugar but now it costs more because of what the Trump admin has done?

It's like they actually want higher prices.

Drinking real Coke is a waste of calories. You get the same kick out of Coke zero for zero calories. I currently prefer Pepsi zero. As for the other dumb part of this, it's to be expected because of who is involved.

Mexican Coke with pure cane sugar is already widely available in the United States.
Do tariffs apply to Mexican coke?

Isn't this going to seriously **** with corn farmers? I realize Coke is just one soda, but will they do it for all their products? Will other soda corporations follow suit?

I haven’t had a cola of any stripe for twenty years.

Can’t put cola in gasoline.

Coca Cola uses high-fructose corn syrup in the US because it's so much cheaper than cane sugar is here, due to our own agricultural subsidies.

Seems like US corn farmers are getting the short end of the stick here.
It will be OK...

Pure cane sugar is a lot healthier than what they currently use.

And people will drink less because the cost will be going up!

We don't hear much from the "keep government out of capitalism" crowd anymore.

So be it. The U.S. is the only market in which Coca Cola doesn’t use pure can sugar today. That’s the reason Mexican Coke is 10x better.

Coca Cola uses HFCS in the US because the United States pays red-state farmers large amounts of money to grow corn.

Didn't you (and people like you) use to post about keeping government out of business?

Why the flip flop? Is it just because you have to stay in line behind that man? That father figure.

Your source is The Post. As the post is owned by Murdoch, and Murdoch is a self-confessed lying sack of shit, I would request that you use a realiable source.

However, if this is true, it's good news.

How can they be getting the short end of the stick if their product, which is lousy, is government subsidized?

Without explicitly confirming the recipe tweak, a Coca-Cola spokesperson said they "appreciate President Trump's enthusiasm" and "more details on new innovative offerings within our Coca-Cola product range will be shared soon".

🤣

Ok, so Trump was just lying again.
