Don't be fooled into thinking greenie weenies are OK with gas drilling either.
That's pretty much it. Coal workers decided to vote for Trump, who told them he'd return their high paying coal jobs, than Hillary, who told them the truth -- their jobs aren't coming back and she'd have programs to retrain them to take new jobs.
The only question now is will they stick by the guy who double crossed them -- didn't bring back coal; has a lawsuit pending to take away their health care and who made their environment more dangerous?
New Carbon Rules the Next Step in Obama's War on Coal
June 1, 2014.
For five years, the coal industry and its fossil-fueled allies in the Republican Party have accused the Obama Administration of waging a war on coal. They claim the administration’s new plan to limit carbon emissions at existing power plants is really about carbon emissions at existing coal plants. They see the carbon rules that the president announced Monday, like his previous rules limiting mercury, smog, and coal ash, as a thinly disguised effort to make coal power uneconomical.
They’re right, of course.
New EPA Rules Show Obama'''s No Longer Hiding War on Coal | Time
Trump rolls back Obama’s biggest climate rule

“We’re going to explore all of our options in court and in Congress,” said Sen. Ed Markey (D-Mass.). “We’ll have to make a calculated decision, but he must be stopped.”

Which has absolutely nothing to do with EPA regulations in the USA.
Definitely not. This century will still be a hydrocarbon century, though likely will transition in the second half increasingly to other energy sources. We do not know new technologies we do not yet know.
That's true even if we are fully powered by renewable sources, which will not happen. Obsolescence.I know what we will find in the next century if life continues as it is now. Dead solar farms and broken down wind generators littering the American countryside.
There are two types of men in the world: 1. Men who are grown but still act like boys who talk dirty with their friends; and 2. Men who pretend to be innocent like boys in order to seduce young women in the closets adjoining the oval office.
Politicians move market forces. Obama promised to kill coal and he almost did it.
You mean like Obama asking how Trump was going to bring back jobs? With a magic wand? Well... Trump has, and he is trying to help the coal industry by undoing the reams of regulations the Green Reich instituted to put a bullet into the heart of coal.
Are you really that misinformed, or just that intellectually dishonest?
Note the dates of the stories. Trump undoing the mess Obama left to kill coal is continually being undone... as the story from 3-weeks ago indicates. Of course... Democrats are hell bent on stopping the effort.
Trump has brought back jobs. Cut taxes and regulations. He has created an environment that is business friendly. Obama looks the mighty Socialist fool so many of us knew he was. Obama had no clue. Was in far above his pay grade as the clip illustrates.
That's true even if we are fully powered by renewable sources, which will not happen. Obsolescence.
The second half of the century looks much more nuclear, which has not been addressed much in the thread.
That's changing with the generation. Those under 30 do not have the same attitude toward nuclear that party leadership does. Nuclear power is extremely green and waste disposal issues are greatly exaggerated. It won't be soon, but there are still eight decades coming.Democrats might go for the Harry Reid nuclear option but only if it is forbidden to republicans. Democrats will never unite to support nuclear energy options, unless it is to support Iran's nuclear energy build up.
You say that like it's a bad thing.A magic wand might have worked better. So far Trump is an utter failure in bring back coal.
You say that like it's a bad thing.
He fulfilled his campaign promise if that is what you are worried about.
There is still a coal industry. Trump saved a lot of jobs. That counts as a win.His promise was that he would save the coal industry. He didn't. Fail!! Try doesn't count.

Trump said he'd save coal: Two more producers go bankrupt with 1,800 jobs lost | Salon.com
He never planned to save any jobs just like never planned to build his wall. They were mere props to get elected. He's a conman, you're the mark.
And how does the left want to save these jobs?
Why should the government intervene to save a fundamentally inferior product in the energy market?
Fred only goes back to 1985 on this but your point is valid.
In 1920, when coal mining employment peaked, coal mining was done by men with picks and shovels living in mining towns. Today, most mining is done with heavy equipment and few workers. Worse for mining employment is that industries are moving away from coal, which is a bit more expensive.I find it very interesting that there has no push-back on these two graphs which show the real problem for coal mining employment. Of course, it is difficult to look at those graphs and blame it all on Obama.
NB: I earlier posted that coal mining employment peaked in 1910---I was wrong.
