A White House official told reporters that the US will take special aim at India, which the person called “the maharaja of tariffs,” as well as the European Union’s value added tax (VAT) averaging 21.8%, which “works effectively like a tariff,” and Japan, which the official said has steep non-tariff barriers to US imports.

“We expect every country to take action, because it is patently obvious on its face that they are cheating us,” the official said, dissing India’s trade policies mere hours before Trump met with visiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the White House.

“If we can balance our trade, that’s a trillion-dollar gain annually.”

Trump said that he intended to press Modi to lower tariffs during their meetings later in the day.

Fun fact of the day but the UK is actually in the middle of a generational uplift in warship building.
We're building a new bunch of frigates and subs and have massively upgraded shipyards in recent years.

The UK also sold a Frigate design to Canada and Australia in massive arms deal.

We're never going to get back to the days where we ruled the waves but we are spending a butload on new ships at the moment and all are buing built in the UK.

Not half bad at all if you ask me.

It was about Tariffs, so "trade balance" was taken out of context, on my part.
But you talking about consuming too much, seed like you did mean Trad Balance...

So delete my first sentence, and leave the rest. That's what Trump and his team said, and is implementing!
Trump also pointed out that all other countries can DROP tariffs and America will do the same, thus the Consumer wins ! That's Trump's plan/desire.

Listen carefully. A tariff isn't 'each country charging the other'. It's an import tax paid by the importer.
And trade is between companies. If Acme Anvils in the USA wants to buy steel from Slapshot Steel in Canada and there's a tariff involved, Acme Anvils pays the tariff on any steel they import.
Until you guys get your heads wrapped around that simple, elementary fact you'll never be able to understand this issue.
