Does trump really not understand tarrifs?

"What people don’t understand is, and this is a lot, the country eats the tariff. The company eats the tariff. And it’s not passed along at all,"

Stupid or lying to the American people....either, or.

What is a Redirect Notice?

That's so ****ing false it's not even funny. Tariffs are sales taxes. Almost 100% of sales taxes are passed along to consumers.

Stupid or lying to the American people....either, or.

"Trump on Friday downplayed concerns about potential economic trouble, saying everything would be “OK” in the long term, even if the U.S economy experienced a recession in the short term," NBC.

A recession, Trump, as our President, caused!
Trump is a lame duck President. Consequently, he doesn't care what people think of him.

So, he makes incredibly stupid remarks, hoping the media will concentrate on his foolish statements and not the fact that he personally is causing a recession and weakening our government with his policies. In addition, he is slashing needed services.

So, in interviews with the press he talks about using force to annex Greenland, Canada becoming our 51st state, 200 trade deals, and bringing peace to Ukraine and Gaza. All of which is pure B.S.

Courtesy of the media, Trump is able to share his fantasies. For weeks he has been talking about numerous trade deals. There aren't any, none made public, anyway. The White House can't even name countries involved in Trump's deals.

The latest is, he doesn't know the relationship between the President and the Constitution ... or so he says.

The Post reports, "President Donald Trump, asked during an interview on NBC News’s “Meet the Press” whether he believes that he needs to uphold the Constitution during his presidency, responded, “I don’t know.”

Obligingly, the media fell for it. The media is all over the stupid remark just as Trump intended.

When the media is spending time on Trump's abundant insipid remarks, they are not devoting their time on the damage Trump is doing to our country.

The media is doing exactly what Trump wants them to do.

The media should should spend far less time on what Trump says, and far more time on what he does.

The latest from Trump!

The AP reports, "President Donald Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz, the notorious former prison on a hard-to-reach California island that has been closed for more than 60 years."

Holy gaslit gospel, Batman! This is worse than cat-eating Haitians, cancer causing wind turbines, secret Kenyan birth certificates, and Jewish space lasers all put together.

Tariffs only apply on select items. Namely imports. Consumers can and should substitute for other products if needed.

What about when no US produced alternatives exist?

Try buying a US made graphics card for a computer for instance.

With the bust of crypto farms, there a huge market for 'slightly' used boards.

Tariffs reduce the GDP, and negatively impact the economy overall.

When consumers have less wealth, it is harder to sell products to them, even products made in the USA. And when you can’t sell as much of your product, you have less wealth as well.

And lots of goods that are tariffed have no domestic substitute.

Buy used. America is full of unused stuff.
How does buying a used VW, which now costs as much as the new one did a month ago, save US manufacturing? And what does the consumer gain by paying more?

When do we get rich? Please explain that part.

The guy who sold the used car for big bucks now has more money to replace it with an American car.

What are you talking about? The VW was getting sold either way. That's the point. How does jacking up the price of new imported cars save US manufacturing? You need to sell Chevys, not VW's.

How does this make us rich? Address that, please.

What do you mean it's getting sold either way. He's getting big bucks for it enticing him to sell. We're all getting rich because all our used stuff now has more value. God knows America is full of excess stuff. People have to rent a storage unit for all their extra stuff.

I lost some money in investments due to Trump’s tariffs. How do you propose I recoup my losses?

And when will Americans break even on all their tariff related losses: employment, economic and social?

Trump said the impact of tariffs would not last long and then things would be worth the sacrifice. But try to nail him down on specifics. He won’t say. Maybe you know things I don’t know. Please clue me in.

If a customer wants a GLI, putting a tariff on new VW's won't make him want a Camaro instead. Tariffs don't create markets. They constrict them. Putting a tariff on new VW's doesn't create a market for American cars. It creates a submarket for used VW's.

He's getting big bucks for it enticing him to sell.
This makes no sense. The point is imports vs domestic, not used car lots vs new car dealers.

That's hilarious. I was just gonna buy a new keyboard. Now that I know all my used keyboards are worth a fortune, it's off to Disneyland for me.

Well then, all we have to do is put tariffs on storage units, and show up weekly for the bushels of cash.

I give it until summer when people's pocketbooks overtake the hold Trump has on them.

Tariffs don't create markets nor destroy them. Traiffs just encourage consumers to choose alternatives. The market for VW are still there, it's just that consumers will need to pay more to get one. Likewise there's now more demand for an American car which should encourage domestic production.

A used car is a practical substitute for a new car regardless of foreign or domestic.

This isn't so silly. Americans are sitting on a huge surplus of underutilized new & used goods that they have to pay to store and insure. Selling them to willing buyers is clearly a win-win for everyone except maybe the storage unit places.

Tariffs don't create markets nor destroy them.
Tariffs are a tax on imports. A business that relies on imports can and will be destroyed.

Traiffs just encourage consumers to choose alternatives.
Tariffs are disincentivizing tools. They don't encourage anything. They are punitive.
The market for VW are still there, it's just that consumers will need to pay more to get one.
Yes, exactly. Raising the price of VW's does not increase sales of Chevys, and manufacturers need incentives to re/locate.

Trump's plan is from a science fiction movie. He's using tariffs not as tools to protect vital industry nor national security. He's using them as threats. He's pimping the American consumer as leverage in ordering foreign leaders to bow. Trump thinks he owns you and me. He thinks he gets to decide how we spend our money. He's using this fantasy power as leverage to decide not only our budgets, but how all consumers worldwide spend their money. Trump means it when he says "tariffs" are a beautiful word.

Trump has no clue how tariffs work, the economic consequences, nor do his supporters. Trump is using you in his pathological journey into megalomania.

Likewise there's now more demand for an American car which should encourage domestic production.

The world doesn't work this way.

Trump says move the plant here and there will be no tariffs. If there are no tariffs, a company has no reason to move here. Trump is batshit backwards. If you want companies to move here, you offer them a tax break or a loan. Threatening them with punitive taxes if they don't obey is not going to work.
