Checks and Balances. The Constitution divided the Government into three branches: legislative, executive, and judicial. ... Just like the phrase sounds, the point of checks and balances was to make sure no one branch would be able to control too much power, and it created a separation of powers.

With Trump now controlling the Executive branch (himself), the Judicial branch (Barr AG and the Supreme Court 5-4 now conservative) and half of the legislative branch (Senate), he now has 87% of what he needs to be exactly the opposite of what the Constitution demands, which is each branch making sure that no one branch would be able to control too much power.

Even with Sessions (a self-stated believer in Trump), the Judicial branch (as represented by the AG and the Supreme Court) was still independent because Sessions (with all his negatives) still believed in the Constitution more than his belief in Trump. Now though, with Sessions fired by Trump and naming Barr as AG and Barr willing to lie for Trump, the Judicial branch which is all about following the law where lying is against the law and the Supreme Court that has shown a bias toward supporting Trump, has proven that Trump is only one small step away from controlling all branches of Government and doing everything he wants.

The only check left is the House and Trump and Barr are working hard to discredit and to stop them doing their Constitutional duty by denying them the information they need to discover the truth. If Barr and Trump are successful, there will be no checks and balances left and the only thing that would remain is to declare Trump king and ruler of the nation.

Where all the Republicans that have declared the Constitution the most sacred thing of all have gone, is the biggest unanswerable question of all. It is like the Devil came in and a mental block was cast that made everything they had been and believed in the past suddenly lose importance and put all their belief and faith in the Devil himself that everything will be fine!

As Trump has said many times before "I alone can do/fix it!"

This is an opinion piece (mine) but based on everything that has happened in the 2 and a half years that Trump has been president and all the public and clear actions that he has taken, it makes the opinion highly valid. As I have said before many times, Trump has no morals, ethics, principles or humanity and he wants to be President for life and be the "greatest president that ever lived" He can only accomplish doing this by trashing the Constitution and getting rid of all the checks and balances that our forefathers came up with to protect our Constitutional Republic.

Heil Trump!

Barr is not the Judicial part of the government, he's Executive. Recompute your percentage and try again.

Thanks, I made the changes but the OP objective remains the same.

Except your 87% figure isn't correct nor even close, so no, your objective does not remain the same.

This is just silliness.

The Democrats had majorities in the House and Senate for the first two years of Obama's presidency.

Does that mean Obama defied the US Constitution because he controlled the Executive and Legislative branch ?

It is an opinion piece and 87% is my opinion. You can refute it but it would be your opinion against mine.

You are in error.

1. Trump does not "control" the Judicial branch. Those Supremes, those judges from the various levels of federal courts...don't answer to him.

2. Trump does not "control" the Senate. It is laughable to think that the Senate will ever do what Trump tells them to do. The reality is that the Senators do whatever their big money donors tell them to do.

So...what it comes down to is that Trump only controls what the Constitution and the laws of the US gives him control over: The Executive branch and the agencies that were created by Congress. And even then, he doesn't have complete control. He cannot violate laws and he has people within those egencies who are doing their best to thwart his agenda.

You know...there's nothing wrong with posting your "opinion piece", but if you want to maintain some level of credibility you should at least base your opinion on facts.

No, because Obama did things according to the Constitution. He attempted to do what he thought was right but followed the laws as written in the Constitution. Trump has vocally urged people that work for him to break the law and has pushed the laws and the Constitution consistently and to the max.

As such, you cannot compare Obama's goals to Trump's goals even if the situation you mention benefited Obama

Facts which you regularly dismiss mycroft. Facts mean nothing to you or to trump's diehard base. He delivers more fake news than all the other stations together and yet you believe him before you believe abc, nbc etc etc.

Trump is doing his best to be an autocrat you and folks like you just absolutely refuse to see it.

Serious question: What makes you think that Trump intends to become a "ruling autocrat" or a dictator? What has he done to rend the Constitution or remove checks and balances?

Serious question: What makes you think that Trump intends to become a "ruling autocrat" or a dictator? What has he done to rend the Constitution or remove checks and balances?

Trump is thumbing his nose at every other branch of the government. His total refusal to turn over documents and his telling his people not to cooperate with the law is a big nothingburger in your opinion?

Serious question: What makes you think that Trump intends to become a "ruling autocrat" or a dictator? What has he done to rend the Constitution or remove checks and balances?

Everything points in that direction, starting with the fact he once said he wanted to be president for life, his support for Putin and Kim, his constant pushing against our laws and our Constitution, his naming of people that are "yes" men and support his law breaking ideas, his statements about "people that keep quiet and do not tell the truth in order to put bad people away are good people (Manafort for example), his taking Sessions down (believer of Trump but stronger believer in the Constitution - he recused himself) to replace him with Barr who has already lied "for" Trump. His criticism of the House for doing the Constitutional duty, etc, etc, etc,..

Everything Trump has done has been disrespect for the Constitution and attempts to do what he wants without bringing in the other departments (Senate and House).

Oh yeah, it was clear to most of us, the ones who didn't vote for him, what his agenda was -- power and wealth. There's not a patriotic bone in his body, no racketeer can be both things at the same time -- criminal and patriotic. The lines of division are very clear here as to who is 'the enemy' of the Constitution and who is trying to save it. Trump, Barr, Graham, Rosenstein, Meadows, Jordan, McConnell - that's just the short list. The Democrats are going to need more than facts and witnesses to maintain their control of 1/3rd of government and repel this want-to-be authoritarian dictator.

This is all a subjective argument.

We already know modern Republican ideology leans aristocratic and authoritarian including use of government power to ensure large business continuance and wealth protection. But the 87% bit, or "autocrat and dictator" bit is argumentative.

Our issue is modern liberalism is also aristocratic and authoritarian, but for other means with a goal of other ends.

The benchmark for autocrat or dictator is continual removal of opposition using the power of governance to that ends. *Some* of that may be occurring behind the scenes with all the maneuvering and political shenanigans known to both front running parties these days but that hardly means Trump is a dictator.

Sound good, definitely bumper sticker thinking to provoke emotional response, but not really what is happening.

It is an opinion piece and 87% is my opinion. You can refute it but it would be your opinion against mine.

Your 87% isn't based in anything resembling reality. Each branch reduced to a percentage would be 33 1/3%. The SCOTUS certainly isn't controlled be Trump, that leaves 66 2/3%. The legislature certainly isn't controlled by the POTUS, Dem majority in the House and Repub majority Senate. Subtract another 17% (rounded up), that leaves what, 49 2/3. See where we're going with this ??

I await your explanation of the 87% assertion ??

Serious question: What makes you think that Trump intends to become a "ruling autocrat" or a dictator? What has he done to rend the Constitution or remove checks and balances?

Shhh! No need to let reality get in the way of this fun.

Trump's a racist. Trump's a fascist. Trump's a dictator. Trump's a Russion asste.

Blah blah blah
Geezus you TDS kooks need some new material.

2. Trump does not "control" the Senate. It is laughable to think that the Senate will ever do what Trump tells them to do. The reality is that the Senators do whatever their big money donors tell them to do.

No, YOU are in error. As Trump has already demonstrated he controls the senate via McConnell. Mr. Turtle McConnell OBEYED the orders of the president to not hear any bill that goes against what he wants. The senate was fine with not funding the wall until Trumptard gave the order to his disciple McConnell.

Executive is 33%, Judicial is 33% and Legislative is 33%. Nonetheless, Legislative is comprised of the Senate and the House and the Senate is in favor of Trump and that makes it half of the 33% is in favor. When you add 33% plus 33% plus 17%, you get 84%. I made an addition mistake when I stated 87% as it should be 84% and for that addition mistake I apologize but 87% and 84% have the same meaning.

Reality demonstrates that the OP is objectively wrong.

In fact, one consolation we have for the Trump administration is that he has been unable to do practically anything he's wanted to do. Precisely because of the balance of power.

The fact that we can have an incompetent with terrible ideas as President and still continue with a good economy, no wars, and successful deflection of 90% of Trump's agenda says good things about our system.

You're still 33 1/3 to high, by assuming the Judicial Branch is controlled by Trump. Now you're down to 50 2/3.

McConnell didn't help all that much with wall funding. McConnell certainly didn't come through on Obamacare repeal. I could name a number of other issues where the Senate opposed Trump.

The fact is, when Trump says frog, the Senate may or may not jump. It all depends upon what their big money donors tell them to do.

Heck, we are already seeing rumblings from the Senate against the USMCA.

Check your facts.

You don't have much credibility here when you exaggerate and say that everything that Trump has done has been disrespectful to the Constitution. Could you provide some examples of how Trump's "constant pushing against our laws and our Constitution" and how successful they've been?
