US Air Force General Alexus Grynkewich is nominated to become CG of US European Command. The NATO Council of Ministers has accepted Gen. Grynkewich as Trump's nominee to be NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe. The Council are the civilian leaders of the 32 NATO countries.
Watch what Trump does, not what he says. The US isn't leaving NATO anytime soon or anytime anyone can say.
Neither Trump nor Hegseth know Gen. Grynkewich from Adam. Indeed, for 250 years career generals and admirals who know who's who career wise and what's what advance their choices to the uninitiated civilian SecDef of the moment and the civilian CinC of the moment -- who smile and sign off on it.
The 3-star LtGen Grynewich soon to become 4-star is director of operations for the Joint Chiefs at the Pentagon. Before this Grynkewich aka "Grynch" was CG of Central Command Combined Air Forces. The USAF Academy grad, "Grynch" has made his general officer creds in drones.
Trump has also nominated Navy Vice Adm. Brad Cooper for advancement to 4-star admiral and to become commander of Central Command, which has military operations in the ME AOR and that executed the targeting and bombings of Iran nuclear facilities. The USN Academy grad, Cooper is currently serving as deputy commander of CENTCOM. The Navy's ship has come in btw as Cooper is only the second Naval officer to command CENTCOM -- all others have been Army or Marines. This likely indicates a strategic shift in CENTCOM ops to sea-air and missile ops which is the trend of what's been going on of late.
The four nominations in the link are regularly scheduled tour of duty appointments by which commanders are rotated in then out to retirement. The outgoing CG of US Central Command is Army Gen. Michael E Kurilla who is retiring as scheduled. Before becoming CG of CENTCOM Kurilla commanded the XVIII Airborne Corps which is all airborne infantry divisions and brigades of the Army. Trump and Hegseth don't know Kurilla from Adam and have no clue of his 34 year career -- likewise for each one of these WHITE GUYS and all the rest of the generals and admirals across the armed forces. Don't know 'em from Adam they don't.
The outgoing US Supreme Allied Commander of NATO forces is Army Gen. Christopher V. Cavoli who is retiring as scheduled. Cavoli who was born in Germany is ROTC commissioned from Princeton and was CG of the US Army European and Africa Command and before that commanded the 25th Infantry Division at Scofield Barracks Hawaii of WW II distinction.
