Trump Nominates Air Force General For Top NATO Post In Europe

600@0

3/16/19
U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated the top U.S. Air Force general in Europe to serve as the next supreme allied commander in Europe and head the U.S. European Command. The nomination of General Tod Wolters was announced March 15 by acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan, who said the NATO alliance had agreed with the pick. If confirmed by the Senate, Wolters would succeed U.S. Army General Curtis Scaparrotti. He will take over his new role in NATO at a time when the alliance is preparing for the likely demise of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, a U.S-Russian disarmament pact that has protected Europe for the past three decades.

In his other role, as head of the U.S. European Command, Wolter would lead all U.S. forces in Europe. Wolters now serves as commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe -- Air Forces Africa based at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. In his role, he also serves as the chief of NATO's Allied Air Command. He has served in that position since August 2016. Wolters is a fighter pilot by training, with more than 5,000 hours through his nearly 32-year military career, according to his Air Force biography.

All success.

Trump knows more than all the generals.

Gen. Woters has spent his career focused on Russian armed forces. He and incoming chairman JCS Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley are hell on wheels toward Russia. They give migraines to Putin and his chief of general staff Valerie Gerasimov who planned and directed the Russian intrusion into Ukraine and the seizure of Crimea.

Woters last year gave congress the balls and the tits to halt F-35 sales to Turkey after the tyrant Erdogan signed on to the Russian S-400 air interceptor system. The Defense authorization for 2019 requires Pentagon to provide a complete report to congress this year.

Turkey’s purchase of S-400 systems will undermine NATO in Europe: US commander

Incoming Nato Supreme Allied Commander USAF Gen. Tod Woters pictured above and incoming Chairman of Joint Chiefs, Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley are Russia hawks.

NATO Allied Air Commander General Tod Wolters said that Turkey’s plans to buy Russia’s S-400 surface-to-air missile defense system would help Moscow accumulate information about range of detection and other characteristics of the US-made F-35 stealth fighter jets, as they are gaining a foothold in Europe.

“Anything that an S-400 can do that affords it the ability to better understand a capability like the F-35 is certainly not to the advantage of the coalition,” Woters said.

According to a spokesman for the US Air Force, Norway, Italy and Britain are expected to have a total of 40 F-35s in Europe by the end of the year [2018], with 24 more to be supplied in 2019; the Netherlands are also set to receive F-35 aircraft.

Wolters said the North Atlantic Alliance was worried about “how much, for how long and how close” for any F-35 jets would be operated near the S-400s. All those would have to be determined. We do know right now it is a challenge," Woters said.

Incoming CJCS Gen. Milley became 39th Army Chief of Staff in 2015 during a change of responsibility ceremony, Summerall Field, Ft. Myer Va., before the historic Old Guard Infantry Regiment which dates from 1784 and is the oldest active Infantry Regiment. Milley said Russia is American's chief adversary and poses an "existential threat" to the United States. Seated were the then SecDef Carter, Army Secretary McHugh, JCS chairman Dempsey, outgoing CSA Oderneiro.

Trump knows more than all the generals.
What the heck does this even mean? The nomination is approved by NATO, the guy has experience in the European Theater. Was this just an uncontrollable "But, Trump . . ." impulse?

Just a statement of claimed fact.

Now that Nato has concurred with the nomination of Gen. Wolters as supreme allied commander the US Senate must vote to confirm (or deny) Trump's nomination. Gen. Wolters is a premier expert on Russian armed forces and commanders so he'll undoubtedly sail through Senate confirmation. The reason is that congress has the rack out for any US commander in Europe/Nato who Trump would like because the general / admiral hasn't got up Putin's nose.

Placing just about any US four-star commander in Europe is good but a four-star who knows the ins and outs of Putin's armed forces goes to the top of the list. Trump had to accept this. So does Putin who really doesn't like the generals being advanced this year which is a good number of 'em.

Likewise for the incoming chairman of JCS, the Army chief of staff Gen. Milley. Congress must confirm Gen. Milley or any nominee to be on JCS or head of it. So while Trump selected each Wolter and Milley, we can be sure congress made its will known ahead of Trump's decision concerning each. Each Wolters and Milley want Putin drawn and quartered. Pentagon military chiefs and theater commanders absolutely do not want a Trump yes man in either command. Or in any command. It's the case anyway that a general or admiral Trump would find compatible with Trump's views is hard to find if not impossible to scare up.

What's your point?

What's your point?

Sure, I can develop it a bit more for you given Trump claims the military is loyal to the Putin-Trump presidency. A couple of vital points only that shred Trump's vacuous claim. Shoot it full of holes in fact.

First is that generals and admirals promote other generals and admirals. When a promotion board is formed to consider promoting a general or admiral -- say from two stars to three stars -- only generals and admirals sit on the board. The board generals and admirals are chosen by -- other generals and admirals.

The board's decision goes directly to the congress. Congress votes on whether to promote or not promote. Ninety-nine point nine percent of 'em are promoted by vote of the congress. Certain promotions to four star require a hearing depending on the position. One such position that requires a hearing by Senate Armed Services Committee is supreme allied commander of Nato. Saceur is chosen by Potus/CinC and requires a public hearing and vote by the Senate to approve the appointment. The Nato treaty requires a four star Saceur and it says American. With the concurrence of the Nato Council of Ministers (prime or presidents) and the Nato Military Council (a general/admiral representing each member state).

In other words Trump does not promote generals and admirals. Generals and admirals decide on the promotion of generals and admirals. Congress votes on it. Potus/Cinc signs off on it. This is so the generals and admirals can be loyal and faithful to the Constitution they take an oath to preserve, protect, defend. The generals and admirals have the positions of the uniformed high command in the executive branch so they especially and in particular must not be subject to the political winds, to include of course the corruption or the disloyalty of a tyrant ruler president/commander in chief who Americans suspect or have discovered is influenced negatively by a foreign power, or who might be owned by a foreign power that is hostile against the Constitution and We the People.

The armed forces oath is to the Constitution and We the People only, exclusively, entirely, and not to any person or any single official of the government. The oath is to the three branches of the government, the coequal branches of the government and to the system of checks and balances. The rule of law and to democracy.

Congress votes on every officer promotion of each armed service. Each time, every time -- from second lieutenant through colonel. Potus/CinC forwards the list to congress from the Pentagon. Then the promotion process changes as stated in this post. So imagine in the current environment if a corrupt Potus/CinC refused to sign off on even one promotion of a general or admiral. What a stink that would be eh. To include by retired generals and admirals. I mean imagine the Potus/CinC leaving the nation defenseless and so on or a big hole in the nation's defenses in some specific way. Just imagine the stink of it eh.

For instance, you can't find a general or admiral who thinks Nato is "obsolete" in the words of Trump. Or that the US should withdraw its troops from South Korea as Trump babbles about. Or who believes Kim Jong Un, salutes Noko generals and who gets love letters from Kim. Or a Potus/CinC who meets secretly with Vladimir Putin in foreign lands, meetings that exclude any American. Or who meets with the Russian ambassador and foreign minister in the White House oval office with no Americans present -- no American at all, not even one. And so on.

Imagine.

A lot of words, not much illumination. And your idiotic "Trump-Putin Presidency" bull**** destroys any credibility you may have had.

I have the identical credibility with the Right as you have with the Left.

No 'may have had' about it in either case.

So you wasted another flash in the pan vacuous post. Maybe try a hobby instead.

President Trump 24/7 controls the brains of millions of Democrats.

When all other blather fails, result to personal attacks, eh? You've presented nothing that suggests anything different is happening in this case than any other high level military appointment.

The point being Trump doesn't have any generals or admirals who agree with his views and actions concerning Nato. Quite to the contrary in fact, the generals and admirals disagree with Trump completely and reject his behaviors toward Nato. This is true also of NK, SK and others. JCS wanted Trump gone yesterday as it were. And here Trump is attacking the late John McCain again. No general or admiral would go near Trump after the McCain POW guttersniping and now we have Trump ranting and raging even more about McCain. Your guy has zero support at Pentagon. Oogats. It's unanimous. Trump's claim of military support are more of his brain farts only and nothing but.

Yeah, fine, ramble on, although I doubt you've spoken to every general and admiral.

It has again been learned that McCain was a snake in the grass and tantrum throwing malcontent. But for his daddy admirable McCain would have never flown again both after firing a missile inside and aircraft carrier and destroying a mega million dollar aircraft while hotdogging.

President Trump is massively supported by the military - though Obama's (ex) generals despise him because OMG Trump actually allows our military to fight to WIN and is giving them the tools to do it with.

The Democratic Party hates the military. Every free-stuff-if-you-vote-for-us plan including taking money from the military to do it.

That's what he's doing to the Presidency and maybe the planet, not just "the left" whatever that might mean. he infects or pollutes many centrists and right wing people too

Nah, it's confined to the minds of the left. As your post demonstrates.

Gen. Milley is incoming chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. I doubt seriously you'd want to ask him privately what he thinks of Donald Trump. For a multiplicity of reasons. Likewise throughout the Pentagon chiefs and commanders.

JOINT BASE MYER-HENDERSON HALL, Va. -- The Army recognized Sen. John A. McCain in a "Salute from the Chief" ceremony Tuesday for his efforts in strengthening America's national security, eliminating wasteful government spending, and assisting in government reform.

Chief of Staff of the Army Gen. Mark A. Milley presented McCain with the Outstanding Civilian Service Medal for his lifetime in service to America, both as a representative for the people of Arizona in the U.S. Congress and as a retired U.S. Navy captain.

"We're here to honor an American patriot -- a true American legend," Milley said." One who has demonstrated extraordinary service to our nation and its people through life in and out of uniform."

Whatever the military vote was in November it didn't do Trump much good. If any, which anyway is dubious.

Jesus. You're just moving from fail to fail in this thread.
Here's an example- are you really contending the US Navy is so corrupt that McCain's commanding officer was influenced by the fact his father was an 'admirable' (snicker!) when deciding on his discipline? Ohyeah, of course your word on the subject is final.
Here's what you need to know about John McCain and Donald Trump. John McCain went back to Hanoi and toured the Hanoi Hilton and reacted with grace and poise. Donald Trump tweeted a petulant pout when an actress slighted him.

Wasn't that a grand gesture from a Class A war criminal?
