President Donald Trump on Thursday fired the head of the Library of Congress, Carla Hayden, the first woman and first African American to lead the world’s largest library. She was informed of the decision in a terse, two-sentence email.

“Carla,” read the message from the White House deputy director of presidential personnel, Trent Morse. “On behalf of President Donald J. Trump, I am writing to inform you that your position as the Librarian of Congress is terminated effective immediately. Thank you for your service.”

The Library of Congress has thousands of employees and archives more than 178 million items, including rare books, medieval manuscripts, a rough draft of the Declaration of Independence and a perfect vellum copy of the Gutenberg Bible. As its chief librarian since 2016, Hayden also appointed U.S. poets laureate and oversaw the Congressional Research Service and the Copyright Office.

“There were quite concerning things that she had done at the Library of Congress in the pursuit of DEI and putting inappropriate books in the library for children,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said at a news conference Friday, referring to Trump’s campaign against diversity, equity and inclusion programs in government. “We don’t believe that she was serving the interests of the American taxpayer well, so she has been removed from her position, and the president is well within his rights to do that.”

How exactly is the Library of Congress supposed to "support Trump's agenda"? It is a depository of of the written word and other media.

Please, @Mycroft, give us some examples of how the Librarian does or does not support a president's agenda.

For example, as in other agencies, Trump has ordered all references to minorities or women, particularly in historical context, be purged. If Trump were to give that order to the Library of Congress, do you believe he is within his authority to do so? The 21st century version of book burning?

Is there any evidence that white men were dismissed from their jobs at the LOC and replaced by lesser qualified women or people of color?

Is there any evidence that the children's area showcased inappropriate books?

The LOC's primary mission is to inform legislation, which it carries out through the Congressional Research Service. The library is open to the public for research, although only members of Congress, their staff, and library employees may borrow materials for use outside the library.[8]

When we would take our kids to the library, we would look at what books they picked. If we thought they picked something that wasn’t age appropriate, we would tell them to pick a different book.

BS. The overwhelming majority of these targeted firings are black men and women, and transgendered folks. The proof is in the pudding. He uses many excuses, but the end result is very transparent. The other minorities he's attacking are clearly the immigrants.

The weird thing about DEI opponents is they don't think there are any black people qualified to take the jobs. Yet Robinson disproves that.
